Testing Grounds - Chapter 1

Start from the beginning

At the edge of the clearing Enaic raises his hand and grabs something in the air. He starts turning the materialising doorknob and the wall its attached to starts to also appear out of thin air. A door soon materialises and like falling water the terrain dissolves around the door as well, the greenery turning into codes and lines then a grey emptiness is what replaces it.

Enaic leaves the door open and walks inside of the box, the door belongs to a decently sized cubed room, the room is like a big, one room apartment with no inner walls to break up sections of the room. Inside consists of a funny looking chair with a pile of books and a carpet under it, both shoved in one corner of the room, next to it is a bed, the wall near the door has a huge computer while the one opposite to it just has a bookshelf and a small desk.

Enaic walks into the cubical room, closing the door on his way in, he discards most of the books onto the chair in the corner with a few falling on the carpeted part of the floor with the rest of the books. He keeps the notebook and looks through a few past entries before turning towards the huge computer. Setting down the notebook and pressing a few keys to turn whatever's running off and presses the power button.

Finally closing the door he looks outside for a moment, it's just a grey void, there's no green and lush mountains with bright blue skies, just endless grey. For Enaic It's still too bright for his tastes, so he closes the door.

Though there's no time in a void, Enaic still takes rest, he sorta needs it anyways. Checking the area on the side of the screen he finds a dial and dials it down dim, the lights in his cubicle home start to turn more yellow and dimmer as he continues to dial it down for a more "reading on armchair by the lamp"-type feel. He puts his chair books back on the built-in bookshelf before falling in bed, not even bothering to go beneath the blanket. Shuffling on his back he takes off his visor and the projected heart disappears as soon as the visor is off his eyes. As soon as the visor is off, blank pupil-less eyes replace it, they stare into the ceiling. He looks a little bit like a corpse and if he were actually human then the assumption would be sort of correct, his blank visor in his grip as he waits to put them on again.

A mechanical sound resounds in the area beside the bookshelf, where the desk is. Above the desk is a rectangular slot, dispensing a piece of paper onto the desk. Enaic lays still, unmoving, he won't move till it's been a few hours, besides... he won't be getting up till he puts the visor back on anyways. The silence once again returns aside from an occasional buzz and a click from the unknown source, most likely the computer.

Extra (is skippable to read, these are just for fun)

"About a two hundred gap compared to the previous ones..." He shuffles to the later pages one by one, around the start of the notebook, it looks somewhat new. Enaic's skull looks more pristine in the fact that it's whiter and his jacket is a solid dark green colour.

"I wonder if I can do something else with my portals? Maybe I can try and do reflection or illusion if I can bend light with them..." He ponders on his abilities, his progress on training his portal ability from now to when he started to exist was noticeable, but it only seems to be in the fact that he can now form a few thousand and with only a severed hand! Still have to work on the placement of his portals. So far his only abilities are portals and a very slow regenerative ability, but that's if he doesn't respawn upon his absolute destruction. He doesn't have much to do when fighting besides flee, so Enaic is stretching his ability to the most he can think of, when he's working on learning (what he thinks) the bare basics.

He had lost limbs, got cuts and gashes, decapitation in a few cases, and being turned into a pin cushion when he was beginning, he was learning how to shape, sharpen and make his portals move and appear closed or connected on command. However, his recent experimentations of his portal limits, he got turned into small cubes from dodging a portal grid wall, fine powder and holes when testing invisible portals by making them unbelievably small, smashed or broken bones via heights and acceleration, being shattered while crushed during a experimental training session, thousands of lacerations both inside and out also in that same month, and recent blinding due to seeing if he can bend light with his portals, but his eyes are covered 24/7 by his visor, so this didn't hinder him, still one of his more harmless results.

He suspects that based on the mess and pressure when being put through the literal grinder when making his portals that there's probably the reason why his books don't have any instructions when it comes to portals, it's mostly about making bigger, stationary gateways and that's about it. Maybe if he researches about light particles he can save a respawn trip...

Notes
(2344 words)
Ngl, when I first started this I ruined my sleep, this was just gonna be an introduction to his abilities like always, but then I went and thought how much of a whiplash that would be if I just went straight to Enaic getting out of his home so i whipped up an introduction. I will admit i got slightly carried away but not as much as the future chapters as this is the shortest chapter so far.

Anyways, valuable life lessons coming soon, in the most graphically extreme way! Since this is a short one this'll prob be the minimum when I make more chapters. I also have to learn how to write dialogue of other characters... and somehow make it sound in character of them... hm. What do you think of his story so far, well, its just me writing about my boy, but your thoughts?

Yo I just added some doodles! This is now registered awesome
