*taps microphone* i have never seen pride and prejudice.

[the crowd boos]

yeah.

time to remedy that!

before we begin, i know virtually nothing about any of these movies nor the material they're based on going into this. all i know is that colin firth is in the miniseries and that keira knightley is in the movie. and the hand flex scene in the movie. but that's about it! so this should be fun...

i watched the miniseries first, then the movie, so that's how i've organised my thoughts below. with the miniseries it's mostly just my thoughts of the plot in general because i was a little clueless lol so by the time we get to the movie my thoughts are more movie-specific, if that makes sense.

obviously, spoilers are to follow, but if you've seen one adaptation and not the other tbh i don't think much will be new to you...? if i'm wrong. ignore me. lol.

capital! capital!

at the first ball i'm obsessed with the way they just have colin firth looking around like he's in a model shoot while lizzy, jane, and mrs bennet talk about how cool he is.

the way mrs bennet sent jane to meet with the bingley sisters not by carriage but by HORSE because it was going to rain just so she would have to stay the night... that was Not It like jane looked so miserable riding through the rain??? and then she got unwell???? ma'am sort out ur priorities!

actually everything mrs bennet says is really so unhinged... i can't. "you look very well, lizzy! you'll never be as pretty as your sister jane, but i will say you look very well indeed!"

no way mr collins said to lizzy "my dearest cousin" and proposed to her all in one breath. wtf. that's all i have to say on this matter.

i love love love mr bennet. he's so funny.

i love the bennet family. the relationships between the sisters remind me of the march family in little women.

mr darcy calling on lizzy twice when she's staying with charlotte oh he is down BAD. what an emotionally repressed loser (affectionate). i actually saw a review that described mr darcy as "emotionally constipated" which feels about right.

men will give you nothing then come out with: "in vain i have struggled. it will not do. my feelings will not be repressed. you must allow me to tell you how ardently i admire and love you."
