It didn't take all but a few moments before she felt several of her souls being destroyed one after another.

Someone strong is here, Puppet concluded, but who? It can't be Endeavor he's up in the sky. I'd be surprised if a sidekick was able to destroy my souls like this. It has to be another pro.

She stayed alert, constantly keeping her head on a swivel to make sure no one could sneak up on her. The dust made it near impossible to see, but she was sure that it was also that way for her opponents.

The dust around Puppet started to stir, but there was no wind. After a moment, she saw dashes of vermilion in the dust surrounding her. Feathers. Hawks had sent feathers into the dust and was manipulating them to clear the area around her. It was working; the dust started to clear, making a small pocket around her and allowing her to see clearly.

She didn't have time to dwell on it, though. Out through the dust behind her jumped one of Endeavor's sidekicks. She turned on them, not hesitating to let strings come from her fingers and lash right at them.

Another gust of wind blew the strings away from them.

She huffed in annoyance. Not much could counter her strings, but blowing them away proved to be an effective tactic.

More people started to invade the small opening. Now there were four of them. It was a bad situation for the villain, if there were more coming, then she was going to be at a major disadvantage.

Back up in the air, Hawks continued to dodge flames that were blasted at him by Endeavor.

He should be at his agency, so why is he here? the former hero questioned. One of the last things he expected was for the number one hero to show up in the flesh. This is bad. I didn't expect any sort of move from the heroes today, and I don't think Puppet did either. We're not prepared for this.

Up in the sky, Hawks had the advantage — he was better off in the air and quicker than Endeavor. So the winged man kept dodging the flames that were continuously fired at him. It was blast after another, and every once in a while multiple blasts at a time. Hawks could tell that the attacks were more like warning shots if anything — the flame hero didn't want to injure his former colleague.

Once Hawks had a good distance between himself and Endeavor, he looked down.

His thoughts turned to Puppet as he looked at the thick plumes of dust that covered the ground. He couldn't see through them, so he had no idea where Puppet was, nor if she was okay. He figured that the use of the dust had been purposefully planned by Endeavor — he wanted to separate the black-and-white villain from the winged man, then take them out while they were each alone.

She's probably facing off against sidekicks right now, Hawks figured.

He turned his attention back to the flame hero. Endeavor was staying lower than him, firing his flames up at the winged and forcing him higher into the sky. He was keeping him as far from the ground as possible, as far from Puppet as possible.

"Hawks!" Endeavor called. "Stand down!"

"Leave Puppet Master out of it and I will," the winged man bargained.

"Why protect her?" he asked. "You know she's a villain and has killed hundreds of innocent people!"

Yeah, I know that, Hawks admitted to himself. Only, he chose to look past all the bloodshed and at the person that Puppet was beneath it all. I also know that she's not as heartless as the Commission makes her out to be. There's a human side to her.

"Can't you just look past that?!" Hawks yelled back. "Even I've killed, and I'm not criticized for it! Leave her out of this!
"Look at yourselves! You attacked us first! We were having a calm day until you showed up!"

"Dammit, Hawks," Endeavor muttered under his breath. He raised his hand in the former hero's direction.

Hawks quickly flew to the side, dodging what was a bigger blast of flames.

Before another set of flames could be fired off, Hawks tucked in his wings and dove past the flame hero, down towards the dust cloud. He was faster than the other man's flames; he could out-speed him.

He dove into the dust, deploying several feathers. His feathers zipped through the dust, and he was able to locate several sidekicks, as well as Puppet. He raced towards her, and as soon as someone that was not Puppet came into his sight, he crashed his foot into their back and forced them to the ground. At the same time, he used his deployed feathers to take out the other nearby sidekicks as well. They were all knocked out.

The dust in the area shifted from the speed he carried, the haze nearby haze clearing into an air pocket.

Hawks looked up, seeing Puppet standing nearby.

He quickly flew to her and grabbed her. He flew them back into the dust cloud and took a sharp turn to get off a predictable flight path.

Flames blasted from somewhere near them, and they could both feel the intense heat. Endeavor was on the ground now.

Once Hawks had gotten them to what he deemed to be a safe distance away, he placed Puppet down on her feet. He kept his wings spread out and positioned himself so that she was right at his back, between both his wings.

Puppet coughed into her elbow a few times as the nearby dust and smoke invaded her airways.

"You good?" Hawks asked over his shoulder, keeping his voice quiet.

She knew that it was best for him to not worry about her in their situation. "I'm fine," she assured him, her voice also low.

"They're not gonna let us run, and we can't lead them to the others either," Hawks said.

"Then we don't have a choice — we fight. I'll take on Endeavor. There's someone else here that's strong too. I used some souls earlier, but they were destroyed quickly."

Hawks nodded. He turned to her and hooked his hands under her arms. He flew upwards, lifting her into the air and flying towards where the blast of flames had come from. They were going towards where Endeavor's was at a high speed.

Puppet knew that she to be the one to fight the flame hero. Hawks couldn't — he was weak to the flames and could be beaten easily.

It wasn't long before they found Endeavor. He was standing alone. It was the perfect time to attack. Hawks flew behind the flame hero, getting into his blind spot.

Once they got behind Endeavor, Hawks swung Puppet forward and let go of her arms, sending her rocketing at the number one hero. He was surrounded by plumes of smoke and dust so none of them could see their surroundings well.

Right as Puppet came up behind Endeavor, she raised her hands and prepared to slash at him with strings. But her attention was quickly turned as the smoke to her side shifted. She quickly put an arm up in defense as a foot kicked at her.

The foot collided with the black-and-white villain's arm. She was sent flying away from Endeavor and out of the dust cloud all together. Whoever that kick came from, they were extremely strong.

Puppet landed on her feet. She dug her boots into the earth and skidded along the ground until she came to a stop.

She looked up at her new opponent, who was approaching her with a steadily-paced walk.

They were a strong hero—one of the top ten even. She had dark skin, strong legs, bunny ears and a cotton tail, along with really long white hair. She was wearing a sleeveless white leotard with a purple trim and a yellow crescent moon on the chest area. On her feet were two thigh-high boots and she had white gloves with long cuffs on her hands.

Puppet's lip curled. Mirko..
