Well as a father and a king Drupad's concern was valid. But did Niyathi care? Nah she didn't. She hated the fact that her father just brushed off her wish just like that. And he dared to order her. Call her arrogant and self centered she won't let a man be it her father or God to walk over her.
Niyathi clenched her jaw and narrowed her eyes at her father and said, "I think you are forgetting a crucial thing here Pitashree. I am not bound to obey your words anymore. I think you happen to forget your promise."
Drupad stilled at his place. He clenched his jaw and glared at his daughter who didn't even flinch at his glare. Instead she looked at him mockingly.
She smirked at him and said, "Let me remind you. I had got my freedom from you. For the world only I may be an obedient daughter but that is a mere facade so that your reputation doesn't crumble under the whispers of the society mocking you for not being able to make decisions your daughters life. I think the Panchala Maharaj will not go back on his word and let the world know that he is a man who doesn't keep his words. What will the people say Pitashree? The Great King of Panchala goes back on his words! How will the people feel? They will lose their faith in you. I think you don't want that."
The message was sent clearly to Maharaj Drupad. Either he accepts her decision or let his reputation crumble in front of his citizens. The threat was clearly sent by Niyathi.
Niyathi played her cards clearly. She manipulated her father yet again into her whim. Niyathi is no fool she knows her father won't accept her decision for going to gurukul. Eventhough Panchala is one of few kingdoms where the princesses were allowed to wield weapon but sending the princess to a gurukul was absurd for them. She knows her father values his reputation more than he values his children.
Isn't that the reason Dhrishtadyumn, Draupadi and herself were born for? Dhrishtadyumn was born to revive his reputation which was broken by Dronacharya.
Though Draupadi and Niyathi was an unexpected surprise for Drupad, as the spiritual daughter of Agnideva and being the most beautiful women of Aryavart had increased his respect across the lands.
The promise her father given was only known by her siblings, Dwarkadesh Sri Krishna, her father and herself. The citizens doesn't know this as it will affect her father's reputation. But by revealing this promise to the whole world and letting know that Maharaj Drupad had broken his word will send a wave of uncertainty amongst the kingdom. Who will want a king who can't keep his word to his daughter, the daughter who is his flesh and blood. How will the citizens believe his words anymore? Then Maharaj Drupad's rule will crumble and he will be mentioned in the long list of Kings who was not true to his words.
Now will Drupad want that? No. So he had no option but to accept Niyathi's decision. He looked at his daughter who was smirking victoriously at him.
He looked at her without any emotions and said, "Fine! I will allow you to go to Gurukul. I will announce the decision tomorrow on court. If any mishaps happens then it will be tackled by you. Only you. Not your brother nor your sisters nor I will come to your rescue tomorrow. Is that okay then go ahead Putri."
If Maharaj Drupad thinks a mere court of men will make her not achieve Niyathi's dream then he was in for a rude awakening.
Niyathi replied fiercely, "You underestimate the lengths I will go to achieve this dream of mine Pitashree. I am the daughter of Agnidev, his essence is running in my vein. I am not an flame that will be extinguished by the wind Pitashree. I am a forest fire which will roar loudly when the wind blows. I know you will try to stop me from going to Gurukul Pitashree. Let's see how your courtiers and you will stop from going to Gurukul."
Niyathi then stood up and said, "If that's all Pitashree I will see you in the court tomorrow. Subhratri Pitashree."
Niyathi swiftly left the chamber leaving Drupad to his thoughts. Oh how she wished Subhratri to him after destroying his sleep.
Drupad thoughts were racing a mile. He knew he had to stop Niyathi from going to Gurukul and he had to do something fast. He can't forsake his reputation for some silly dream of his daughter.
Drupad stood up immediately and took a paper and some ink and wrote a message. He asked the messenger to send this to his trusted minister. After the messenger left, Maharaj Drupad stood in the balcony and looked at the dark sky.
He thought to himself, 'Let's see how you handle the problems you will be facing tomorrow putri. I refuse to send you to Gurukul by staking ny reputation at risk. Call me heartless but my reputation is more important to me than your happiness.'
