checkmate

A weathered man roams with a leg for a Caine
Wondering if his life was in vain
Encountering every step the barrier being his bane

No harm no fowl, no entry for   afoule
A world akin to a checkered chess board,
A king more helpless then a pawn in the horde.
As the queen inches ever so closer,
Move forward only to face the might of the knight,
Move backwards to be shook by the rook.

The man realises his fate.
For a king with no pawns it's only a checkmate
