One way or another, Heeseung can never stay forever in this strange yet familiar and happy road he's driving with. Knowing it, he knew he should take this chance to explain.

"The thing that you lied about that night," Jake then speaks. "What was it?"

"Nothing," Heeseung answered. "That word."

Jake remained silent, probably waiting for Heeseung's further explanation.

"You asked me why did I kissed you, I said it was just nothing," Heeseung continued. "But I just hate the fact that you're still in love with someone who you should've already forgotten long time ago."

Another silence.

"I hate seeing the tears in your eyes, it's ugly."

Heeseung looked at Jake using his peripheral view, checking on him. The younger male was straightly looking at his side, but he knew that when he would look up and meet his gaze, Jake would look away.

"And you're so close to me, I just... can't help it," Heeseung continued speaking.

"You said it was to confuse me," Jake finally speaks. "To distract my thoughts about Sunghoon."

"That's obviously a lame reason, you're just too naive to believe it," Heeseung said, not hiding the smile on his lips.

"How about the second time?"

"Same thing," Heeseung said. He finally looked up and met Jake's gaze. Unlike his prediction earlier, Jake didn't look away.

"So it's really me," Jake speaks. "The other lane you found."

Heeseung nodded, "The lane that does not recognize me."

Jake looked away, feeling guilty.

The only reason he decided to approach Heeseung was to help him realize his worth, help him take the courage to stand against and fight for himself.

"What if..." Jake speaks, voice shaking.

What if that lane is willing to recognize you? Would you choose to stay here?

That was what he wanted to ask originally, but he decided not to continue asking the question. It sounded so wrong. He wanted to help Heeseung find the courage to free himself from his toxic relationship with that girl— not to steal him away.

"You're right," Jake nodded, "You'll only hurt yourself if you choose to stay here."

The hope in Heeseung's eyes disappeared immediately, a sad yet understanding smile grazed on his lips as he looked away.

"I know," Heeseung said. "Hearing it directly from you have already shown me the way back." and it hurts a lot.

Another silence came. Heeseung refused to keep the conversation going as he tried hard to hide the effect of Jake's rejection on him.

It didn't last long as Jake silently stood up.

"I have to go home this afternoon," Jake says. "I guess this should be the last time we're seeing each other... again."

Heeseung flatly smiled as he looked up, hoping the opposite of what he has just heard from the student council.

"Goodbye, Heeseung-hyung."

"Are you going to agree meeting him?" Heeseung asked before Jake could take a step away.

The student council turns around, "Sunghoon? Yes."

Heeseung nodded although Jake couldn't see it.

"Goodbye, then," he whispered loud enough to be heard as the student council started walking away.

Heeseung remained looking at him until he disappeared into the corner, just then he only let a few tears escape his eyes.

+++

Jake could feel his heart getting heavier as he continued walking away from Heeseung. He couldn't understand why he was feeling that way and the fact that he's regretting not asking Heeseung about that question.

He wanted to know the answer, but he could feel there's more reason other than that why he was feeling that way. Yet, Jake couldn't think of any other reason, or maybe he was just denying the sudden thoughts appearing on his mind.

One thing for sure is, Jake wouldn't want to meet with Sunghoon anytime soon.
