MARINA HEZONJA

My last match was a week ago, it was the last match I was able to play and it was just before the semi-finals. Then I got an injury that I never wanted to happen to me. During one fight for the ball, I grabbed the hand of one of the guys from Partisan, to be precise, it was Dante Exum, a guy who never liked me and I didn't like him either. We were such enemies. Dante then made a rather unexpected move and unfortunately my shoulder couldn't take it and gave out. It was at a time when I was looking for a new job in another team, because I didn't want to continue in Madrid, despite the fact that I had my brother there.

The injury made my situation so difficult that 3 teams that wanted to give me a contract withdrew from it, because they could not work with me for the time being and I would not be ready for the first training sessions of the season. The only one who didn't say no to me was the Monaco team. I wanted to go to Monaco a year ago, but unfortunately Madrid did not allow me to withdraw from the contract and transfer. However, today was the day when I went to sign a contract for an engagement with the AS Monaco team in the basketball Euroleague.

The journey was rather long, I had a couple of complications when I got stuck in a convoy. Everything didn't go very well for me today, it has to be left, but despite it all, I managed to get to the place and the building where I had to sign the contract on time.

I entered the room and immediately two pairs of eyes fell on me. Monaco coach and team manager, I put one of my smiles on my face and shook hands with both of them.

"Good morning Marina, we are glad that you came to see us today" Sasa said and we sat down on the chair at the same time

"I am very glad that I can be here now" I smiled

"How's the shoulder?" Asked Milenko, the team manager, holding a black folder under his arms

"So far it's not much, but I believe that in a few days it will be much better and I will start to move a lot with it" Sasa smiled and nodded at me, Milenko pushed the black file into my hands

"I'm glad you have a very positive outlook on it" I looked at the folder I currently had in my hands

Everything suddenly started to seem as it should be, I was finally happy.

"If you agree to everything in the contract, nothing prevents you from signing it" Sasa smiled at me and I took the pen that was lying on my left hand

I read the basic terms of the contract, but every contract is exactly the same, so it didn't take me long and my left hand, which was in a brace, with the help of the movement of my whole body, reached up to the paper and the tip of the pen. I started making slow strokes that started to form my original signature. I made the last move and put the pen down. They both stood up from their chairs and I stood up as well.

Sasa extended his hand to me and I gave it to him "Welcome to Team Marina"

"Thank you" I offered my hand to Milenko, who shook it back with a smile

"Everything including moving and the apartment is furnished, you just have to move in" The words rang out and I started to cry a little, but I suppressed the tears

"Okay, I'll move in during the next week" I replied to Milenko, who also nodded at my words

Then they escorted me out, said goodbye to the family, and I, along with the contract, went back to the house where my brother was also.

MÁRIO HEZONJA

When my sister came back to the house, she was holding a kind of black folder in her hand, which she placed on the kitchen table and went upstairs to her room, probably to change.

I came to the table and opened the black boards, I saw the Monaco logo and also the word "contract", I looked at the paper and couldn't believe that Marina was really serious about leaving. Anger and sadness began to mix in me, unfortunately at this moment the anger prevailed.

"Marina, come down" I yelled into the barrack area to make sure she would hear me

When I heard her light footsteps, I turned with the folder in my hand and looked at her.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I pointed to the black boards that I was clutching in my hand in anger

"Mário, it's my contract" Marina replied calmly which made me even more angry

"Marina, you can't be serious about this" I came closer to her, still holding the folder  in my hand, and Marina took a step back and looked at me

"Mário, it's my life and my decision" she said with a hint of anger in her voice and took the folder from me

"We should have decided on this together" I grabbed her wrist

"None together! Mário, you have absolutely no influence on this and you never will. This is what I wanted a year ago, I don't feel happy in Madrid, let me do what I want. What's so bad about leaving?! I have nothing to do in that team anyway, I don't get along with anyone there except you and Gabi, I don't feel good there!" She raised her voice at me and I knew she would start crying sooner or later

"But I'm still there, you can't leave me there, what about our plans to play in a team together Hm? Have you already forgotten that?!" I came out to her with something that even she didn't feel comfortable with

"Mário, you can't have me with you for the rest of your life, it was 5 years ago when we said that to each other! Listen to me" she came to me and put her healthy hand on my neck

"Madrid is not for me, I have no support in that team and the only ones who ever really supported me there were you and Gabi" I knew it was true. For the last year, maybe two, Marina had no support in the team

"But I only have you in there" Marina smiled at me

"That's not true, the whole team is behind you and the whole team has your back, but it's time for me to find my own team that will do this for me. I will not leave you, we will still see each other, even if I live a few hundred kilometers away" I lowered my gaze to the ground, but Marina immediately raised it to look into her eyes

"I'll always be there with you at every game and whether it's in person or just in my mind, I'll be there Mar"

"Oh my god Mari sorry, I'm such a moron. I shouldn't have reacted like that at all. Why can't I ever understand anything?" Marina hugged me and I hugged her back carefully so as not to hurt her shoulder even more

"Don't apologize, I would feel the same way in this situation and maybe even react the same way. I understand that we have been together since childhood, but we are now adults and each of us needs to find our team and our home, you found it in Madrid, I have to go somewhere else and maybe Monaco is somewhere else. You have to let me go, even though it will be hard for you as it is for me" Mari pulled away and looked deep into my eyes

"I know, I'm sorry" I smiled at her and one tear ran down my face "I want the best for you and if it's Monaco, then go for it" I kissed her on the forehead and pulled her carefully to me into a hug

"Thank you Mar"

Everything happened so terribly fast, this small exchange of our opinion, eventually led to a good end. But I still couldn't somehow mentally process the fact that my younger sister, who had played with me since I was little in the same teams, would not be with me now.

But if it will lead to her happiness, her joy and her satisfaction, the best thing for men to do is to let her go.
