i sighed heavily as i came to the conclusion that i had no choice but to start working on this task right away. i knew that without my best friend sarah, who had been by my side ever since high school, i would have collapsed under the stress of it all.

"hey, can you hear me?" a voice broke through the phone call as I reluctantly turned my attention to the assignment. "yep. loud and clear." i answered in a monotonous tone, my eyes fixed on the daunting task at hand.

"cool. anyway, holy shit did you see the assignments tab?" sarah's voice was filled with frustration. "this is literally going to be the death of me. like seriously i haven't even done the other 3, and now she's adding another one."

i couldn't help but let out a dry chuckle, my own frustration momentarily forgotten. "tell me about it," i replied. "this semester is turning us into zombies."

"oh yeah," sarah's laughter echoed through the phone, a brief break from our shared academic problems.

"you know, zombies with laptops and textbooks," she added, "and a never-ending hunger for coffee."

"and an insatiable craving for sleep." i chimed in, adding a cherry on top.

"ah, yes. that's our main side-chick, good ass sleep." sarah quipped, making us both laugh.

we continued to banter as we worked, the conversation flowing effortlessly. it was amazing how, even in the most stressful times, sarah had a way of making things lighter. the weight of the horrifying deadline didn't feel as heavy with her by my side, even if it was just through a phone call.

"have you ever thought about what we'll do once this semester is over?" sarah asked, her voice laced with a touch of excitement.

"sleep for a week straight?" i joked.

"that's a given," she laughed. "but seriously, once this hell of a week has passed, what's the plan?"

i paused, contemplating her question. it was rare to have a moment to think about life beyond assignments and exams as a future nurse. "i guess take a breather, maybe travel a bit if that's possible. and, of course, attend a ruel concert."

"of course, that's such an isabella thing to do, to attend a ruel concert. that'd never go away with you." sarah said. "speaking of ruel, have you listened to his latest release?"
