Getting a higher rank was never really that hard. Since I was a child, I was very athletic and really good at catch. Luckily, I am still the same to this day, so I have no problem escaping the hunter. After one month, I made it to tier 2. After another two months, I had tier 4. And this month, last week, I got into tier 6.
People congratulated me, but some people worried me that hunters on this level are way more intense than on the previous one. I didn't really believe them. It's impossible to have such a drastic change in skill between those two ranks! But today, I will test it myself.
At around 8:03 a.m., the morning was misty and calm. The forest was all in midnight raindrops. If only It would have been like this for a little longer. But unfortunately, the game had started. It was the sweet old Sacred Heart Hospital. My teammates are Norton, Luca, and Fiona. But Hunter was still unknown. I ran into the main building to start decoding a cipher machine, when suddenly some of the ciphers became connected by an electric wire. It must be him, The hermit.
Nonetheless, I started to decode the cipher. Suddenly I saw him through the window, wandering around. He also got a promotion like me last week. What a coincidence. Since his new ranking, he has been wearing new clothes. It was colored in deep blue and gold, complimenting his warm-toned pearl-white hair. But he was also wearing a strange muzzle. The second I saw him, he glanced back at me. His stare was sending shivers down my spine. Once, he glanced at me, I was ready to run, but he suddenly teleported away. Why is he doing that? Does he think that I am weak and boring to play against? Well, I am going to show him that I am no weakling.
Suddenly, I saw from afar that the Luca got a hit. I looked around and tried to get a hang of the situation. "Okay, the priest was decoding and getting hit by the electrical wire, same as me, Norton was on his way to save Luca. It's going to be fine, I will win, I will."
Or so I thought to myself. Suddenly, after only 4 minutes of kiting, Luca lost. Prospector was still kiting the hunter, and after I just finished decoding two ciphers, and Fiona also finished two, we only had one left. Just a little before he was captured, I met with Fiona, and we healed each other. Then we decided to save Norton together. After the escape, she will decode one last cipher while I will be helping him escape. The route we used to escape was simple. Since it was near the main house, I would go with him there and kite hermit as long as possible. Luckily, the priest had put multiple portals in the house beforehand, which made it easier to confuse the hunter.
And so we went. As I rescued Norton, Fiona took one hit, so I will be able to shield him with myself in the future while we run to the house. Everything was going fine until Hermit used one of his abilities to teleport nearby. He was about to hit while he was stunned. I rushed to him as fast as possible and blocked him with my body. Everything happened swiftly. Even Hermit was quite shocked and overwhelmed. But his expression was rather very regretful.
As we ran into the main building, something unexpected happened. Hermit used his ability 'blink' and knocked down my teammate. I was standing there, trying to understand the situation. Suddenly, everything slowed down. I saw him on the floor unconscious, and then the Hermit himself, staring at me. Dark eyes that were looking straight into my soul, demolishing every inch of confidence left in my body. Yet they were so captivating. I quickly turned around and ran to the stairs, and he followed me. My head was dizzy from the hit I got earlier. My ears got so sensitive that I could hear every single step of his, the confidence in every step, the arrogance, for finally showing me his superiority. The tension was getting worse every second.
"NO, I thought to myself, I will win, I WILL WIN."
And as I was on the second floor, I ran into the room desperately trying to find a pallet. After a short moment, Hermit picked me up and pinned me down on the nearby table in the middle of the room. The only sours of light were coming from the light ball on the ceiling, right on top of me. The light fell perfectly on this entire table, completely illuminating it. The light from the ceiling covered every inch of my face, exposing the fear written on my face. And how desperate I was.
"Why are you always like that? So stubborn?" Hermit whispered as he leaned closer.
" If you stand for nothing, then you fall for anything," I smirked as I tried to yell, but his right hand was on my neck, holding it tightly.
It wasn't painful, but it was hard to speak.
"Hm, you are indeed, very amusing," he smirked.
For some time, he was studying my face, as if he was trying to remember every inch of it. His eyes were full of hunger, and anticipation for more.
"Try not to get in my way, and I will let you go," Hermit whispered in a cunning way as he started to let me go.
"You got the wrong person!" I finally yelled as I tried to run away.
Suddenly, a short but painful shock wave went through my whole body as I fell down to the ground. My head became very dizzy, it was hard to see or think clearly. As I was writhing in pain on the cold floor, I tried to call for help.
"Pries...Priestess!" I tried to yell, but my throat was still hurting from the choke hold.
"someone is disobeying, what did I tell you? Be a good girl and don't get in my way" He sounded slightly annoyed.
"Then make me!" I said angrily as if I was challenging him.
He chuckled "Don't worry, I will" Hermit lowered himself and removed his muzzle. He proceeded to put the muzzle on me.
"Don't try to cry for help. Just wait, while I finish my job. You will be the last one, don't worry," He also tied up my hands so I could not get the muzzle off from my face.
As I was on the floor half conscious, Hermit took his warm Jacket off and covered me.
"It's getting cold, you should stay warm, or you will catch a cold."
He smirked and walked away.
As I was still lying on the floor, I could hear the echo coming from every step he made, and with each one, he was closer to Norton. Hermit finished him off quickly, then moved to the poor priest. Luckily, Fiona finished decoding the last cipher machine, but the hermit captured her in no time. After a while, I freed my hands from the rope and got downstairs. But it was difficult to move since I got hit and I had a gigantic coat on me. The scent from his warm jacket was alluring and intoxicating with the woody and refreshing herbal scent. It was so hard to concentrate.
After a while, I had reached my destination. Upon entering the code, the exit gate opened successfully. Suddenly, a strange sound appeared from behind. My mind went silent. The only thing that I could hear was his footsteps. I turned my head, and it was him, the hermit, slowly walking towards me. I started to run, dropping the coat and throwing the muzzle wrong. But he just stood there, yet something was off. He didn't have a happy or a proud expression, nor was he smirking. He was standing there with a blank expression, unemotional, allowing me to escape.
