I nodded my head before darting forward to one of the guards. He shoved his spear out toward me, but I grabbed it, the tip cutting into my hand, but I didn't react. Kicking the pike out of his hand, I swung my other leg to kick him on the side of his head, causing him to stumble back. Taking that chance, I shoved the spear into his chest.
I turned to see the other guards having somewhat of the same faith in their weapons being used against them.
"Let's keep moving." Atlas jerked his head forward.
I never realized how exactly prominent this place was. I only knew the cell area, showers, cafeteria, and the outside. But apparently, there was more to this place.
"How do you know where the back exit is? I didn't even know there was one." I picked up my pace, falling in step with Atlas.
"Seriously? Every building has a back exit just in case of an emergency. Come on now, Fay. Don't be stupid." Atlas responded, rolling his eyes. "And you're not the only one who tried escaping either. That's how I know."
Did Atlas try escaping once? Of course. I bet all of these twins at least tried once to escape. Only Fay was successful with the help of Sevyn, of course, but why didn't Sevyn go along with her if the escape plan was so successful?
"I got caught," Sevyn answered as if she could read my mind. I turned my head toward her as she now fell in step with Atlas and me, the other prisoners still behind us, watching for any other guards.
"Right at the end... I got caught."
"Well, you get a second chance of escaping," I told her, smiling softly, though I did not know how everything would turn out when they found out that I was actually not Fay.
We continued down the corridor, fighting a couple of guards that popped out of almost every corner. I tried to ignore the screams of pain and pleading as some of the twins that had followed us had gotten injured or even killed. I wanted to drag the wounded, but Atlas insisted they would only slow us down. My heart hurts for them.
Watching them plead to take them with us. Their hands reached out for me as tears spilled down their faces.
"We're almost there," Atlas whispered as we were pressed against the wall, listening for footsteps. When none was heard, Atlas jerked his head, signaling us to go first as he watched our back. He was right. We were close. All the fighting. All the blood. There would be no more because we were right there.
God. We were right there. I quickened my pace, breaking out into a sprint toward the door.
"Arianna, watch out!" Sevyn's voice came from behind me.
What? How does she?
I turned on my heel, but as I did, Sevyn's body was shielding me as an arrow shot right through her. My eyes widened as I stumbled back, glancing around the area. In the excitement of almost being free, I had not realized that guards were stationed near the corners waiting for us. Probably knowing that we would attempt to escape from the back door.
"Sevyn!" Atlas's voice rings out, causing me to flinch from the intensity of his tone. I turned my attention back to Sevyn, who only pulled the arrow out of her as if it was nothing, though judging by her face and the blood that she spit out, she was in terrible pain.
"Didn't I tell you not to rush into things? Always..watch your back.." Sevyn spit out, wiping her mouth as her other hand pressed firmly on her stomach.
"Get her out of here! I'll be right beh-" Atlas shouted as he was fighting off the guards just for us, but as he turned his attention toward us, my heart shattered watching as an arrow went straight through his head.
