Because Metal showed up out of know where and started killing almost all of Ethan's friends including Eggman.
The only survivors were Ethan, Amy, Rouge, Blaze, Tails, Knuckles, and the newly revived Sage.

Tails seeing what was going to happen told the gang what Ethan was about to do shocking all of them... So Tails brought out a warp ring and threw it causing it to open a portal to Earth but the location was unknown because it was nighttime on Earth...
As for Ethan he was beating the snot out of Metal sending him into the core of Mobius.
With one final tear shedded, Ethan shoots a blast at Metal causing a chain reaction at the core of Mobius to become unstable...
With little time left Ethan, Tails, Knuckles, Sage, Rouge, Amy, and Blaze entered the warp ring as it closed just in time but now Mobius...
