Main Phir Bhi Tumko Chahunga

Start from the beginning

However, Sameer was incredibly happy to see my family. "Aap to hamaare daamaad ji ban gaye. Hum kuch samay se aapase milane ki prateeksha kar rahe the(You have become our son-in-law. We have been looking forward to meeting you for a while.)" As soon as Mama embraced him, everyone gathered.  "Tumhe dekhakar bahut achchha laga, bhai(It's wonderful to see you, bro.)" After a very long period, I was truly taken aback to see Radhika didi and Anurag bhaiya. At the dining table, we all gathered. "Main samajhata hoon ki yah sthaan aapaki Kerala haveli ki tulana mein apriy hoga. Dharavi ek chhota, ooncha gaanv hai(I understand that this place must be unpleasant in comparison to your Kerala mansion. Dharavi is a small, loud city.)" Sameer disagreed differently. "Yah sach hai, lekin maayane yah rakhata hai ki pyaar har jagah maujood hai. Bachcho aur parivaaron ko muskuraate dekha ja sakata hai. Main pahale se hi is jagah ko pasand karata hoon(It is true, but what counts is that love is present everywhere. Children and families can be seen grinning. I already adore this place.)" His generosity had already made Vinod Chacha happy. "Aisa prateet hota hai ki tumhe aadarsh jeevanasaathi mil gaya hai, Pru. Main pahale se hi usase pyaar karata hoon, aur aisa lagata hai ki parivaar ke baaki log bhi aisa hi mahasoos karate hain. Kya unamen ab bhi vahi haasy kee bhaavana hai jo kabhi mujhamen thi( It appears that you have discovered the perfect spouse, Pru. I already love him, and it seems like the rest of the family feels the same way. Does he still have the same sense of humor that I once did?)" I laughed as Sapna Aunty shoved. "Vah bilkul aapake jaisa hai, yah sach hai. Vah mera majaak udaata rahata hai jaise aapane Sapana Aunty ke saath kiya tha(He is just like you, it's true. He continues to make fun of me like you did to Sapna Aunty.)" As we recalled past events, we laughed. Even though the days passed quickly, everyone adored Sameer. He played cricket with my uncles and the kids, assisted my mother with her assignments, and assisted the family with household tasks. Being his wife made me happy. Soon, we had to bid everyone farewell. "Hum nihsandeh sheeghr hi aap logo se milenge. Agalee baar hum Kerala jaenge(We will undoubtedly visit you folks shortly. Next time, we'll visit Kerala.)" Everyone rejoiced as Nani dashed downstairs carrying a container. "Maine vishesh roop se aap logon ke liye kuchh banaaya hai. Yah Maharashtra ke hastanirmit saamaanon se bhara hua hai(I made something especially for you guys. It is filled with handmade goodies from Maharashtra.)" As he took it, Sameer was really excited. "Nani, aapane inhen banaaya hai. Main bhookha hoon. Ho sakata hai Priyu ne aapase kuch uthaaya ho(Grandma, you created these. I am hungry. Maybe Priyu picked something up from you.)"

Everyone smiled and we both giggled. We waved goodbye as we entered the bus for Mumbai and afterwards the train for Kochi. We were looking forward to seeing the kids and his family as we were driving back home with joy. We immediately felt as though someone was pushing our car aggressively. Our car crashed into the tree, which then caught fire. "PRIYA, main tumhe baahar nikalane mein madad karane ja raha hoon(I'm going to help you in exiting.)" We both coughed and inhaled black vapors. The branch divided me from Sameer after I left. "SAMEER! Tumhe bachana hoga. Chalate raho(You must escape. Get Moving!)" I struggled to draw him closer to me as tears started to fall from the corners of my eyes. "Cheejon ko badatar hone se bachaane ke liye tumhe jaana hoga Priyu. Main hamesha aapaki taraph rahoonga(You have to go, Priyu to avoid things from getting worse. I'll always be by your side.)" I shook my head and cried some more. "Nahi-nahi aap akele nahi ja sakate, nahi. Agar tum marane vaale ho to hum ek-doosare ke liye maujood rahenge. Main tumhaare saath mar jaoonga(No-No You cannot leave by myself, no. We'll be there for each other if you're going to die. I will die with you.)" As he replied, "Take care of our children and my family," he pushed me. "Yah kabhi na bhoole ki chaahe main aapase kitani bhi doori par kyon na rahoo, main hamesha aapake liye maujood rahoonga. Ab jao! Mujhe tumase pyaar hai. I love you(Never forget that no matter what distance apart I am from you, I will always be there for you. Now go! I love you.)" The car exploded upside down, and I fled. I screamed when I got to safety. My only desire was for my Sameer to be alive. With my own eyes, I saw Sameer dying as I fell to my knees, breaking down. I was not able to breathe from the smoke. Suddenly everything turned black.
