THIRD PERSON POV

chris and y/n, the two people that everyone thought of when they heard the phrase "just friends." everyone caught the longing stares they shared when they thought no one was looking, the insides jokes that only they understood, the blush on their faces when they'd accidentally touch. it was noticed by all.

so naturally, when the two got together, no one was shocked. nick going as far to say "okay? i don't know what else i'm supposed to say here. it's not like it's a big shock." making chris punch the oldest triplet square in the chest, resulting in the two wrestling for a good fifteen minutes before nick tapped out.

and the six month relationship started out good, both y/n and chris felt like they were perpetually living in the honeymoon phase. but the couple felt that things fizzled out quite quickly after they hit the six month mark.

no one had expected their relationship to burn out so quickly. everyone was stunned to say the least when the couple announce that they had broken up. neither of them really explained why, trying to save people the guilt of taking the blame for making the two feel forced together.

*FLASHBACK*

for the third time that week, and probably the twentieth time that month, y/n found herself mindlessly scrolling away on her phone as she laid in chris' bed, fighting the urge to get up and leave. chris had invited her over, wanting to hang out but their time together ended up the way it always seemed to be recently. chris yelling away into his headset while she laid in his bed, eventually falling asleep before he could remember that his girlfriend was there.

but this time felt different, y/n didn't want things to stay like this. she didn't want to keep feeling like her boyfriend didn't really want her around, only inviting her over out of obligation. she had been feeling the relationship felt forced for awhile now, she just wasn't sure if it was the transition from the "honeymoon phase" to a regular relationship, or if they hadn't actually meant to be together.

chris felt how tense and forced things had been, too. he was also unsure of how to approach things, this was his first relationship after all, everything was still new to him. so when y/n tapped his shoulder and gave him a slightly pained looked, he knew the inevitable was about to happen.

"chris we need to talk." she sighed, taking a seat on the edge of his bed as he paused his game, turning to face her.

"yeah i know."

"so you've noticed how like forced things have felt lately? it's not just me?"

"yeah i have. i'm sorry i haven't said anything, i just wasn't sure what to do, you know?" he mumbled, shrugging as he looked at her.
