I sit under a tree in the middle of a autumn afternoon, drawing out one of my favorite places to go. I glance up at the leaves that are falling and notice the wind picking up, and I lean my head back against the tree and sigh. I always wondered how I got here. I've been bouncing from house to house ever since I was 4, we lived in 7 different houses and now, we are trying to settle into a new one. We found the perfect one, we just aren't sure if the sale has finalized.
I've always been into art, when something goes wrong I just draw. Especially when I'm outside. I have a huge love for nature and it always inspired me, especially in the fall. I always dreamed of being a figure skater It's one of my biggest goals I wanna accomplish. And I'm 16 and haven't had a boyfriend yet. So that's pretty embarrassing. But I'm a shy awkward type, I've never had someone really truly "like me". My best friend is literally my sister.
Speaking of my sister, I suddenly hear footsteps approaching me and turn my head to look, seeing my sister Kiara approaching me with a big smile on her face. "I have the greatest news. We got the house!!" I smile slightly and stand up, brushing off the leaves and grass off of my jeans.
"That's exciting, when will we be leaving?..did mom say?" Kiara glances back at our house for a minute before looking back at me "no..I guess we just will start packing slowly. I guess we should be out by the end of this month." I shrug and pick up my drawing pad from the grass and smile "okay. I'm pretty excited about it.."
Kiara smiled and followed me inside "yeah, I heard the school is pretty nice. Might make some new friends since you don't have many here, hm May?" I smiled and nodded in agreement. She's had the nickname may for me since I was a baby. My real name is Maya Ann. Pretty simple if you ask me.
Kiara Lynn Carter. My best friend and my sister all at once. We've been close since we were both young, even though she is a bit older than me. 19. We always do things together and when something goes wrong we just get in her car and blast music and drive around this boring old town.
Maybe this new town will be better. Maybe more to do and see. I always come out of my shell when I'm with Kiara, I'm less shy, more talkative. Maybe she can help. Give me advice on how to meet new people in this new town.
Settling into a new house was always the worst in my opinion. Unpacking. Learning your new home. It doesn't even feel like a home until about a month later. Than your stuck in a new school with new people. Never sparked my interest.
I walk up the creaky old steps in my house and walk to my room, slowly taking off the pictures on my wall and posters. I guess I could start At least taking down my wall decorations. I piled them on top of my desk and take off my shoes, putting them in my small crowded closet before sitting on my bed, staring at the ceiling.
Once again, I have to repeat the cycle. But maybe it won't be as bad this time, maybe I'll be happier in this new house. Who knows. In a way I'm excited. Something feels right about this, like it may be perfect this time. Guess I'll know soon enough.
