1: Important Stuff

(Kira POV)

Mother always told me I reminded her of Father. She says that because of his attitude and feelings towards others.

While other girls and boys were playing with Barbies and monster trucks, I was playing with matches and learned archery. Mother always told me archery would never get me anywhere in life but she is also the one who ends up falling asleep drunk every night.

My name is Kira Reed. My father died when I was 10. He got in a bad car accident and I was actually with him. A drunk driver hit us. Knocked me out cold and killed him. To this day, no one knows how I survived but all I remember from that day was that I wasn't wearing a seatbelt. I believe that if I was wearing the seatbelt, I would've been dead. Probably would've liked that though.

Anyways, I'm 16 year's old, Junior year in high school, very observant, and pretty sure I'm a sociopath. Why do I think this? Well...

I was only 11 years old when I killed my first animal. I was traumatized but it sparked something in me. I was shooting my bow and arrow in my backyard forest. I tried to hit a target in the trees but instead hit a bird flying by. It fell and hit the ground hard. I ran to my mother for help but it was too late, it was already dead from impact. Days passed but the image of the dead bird never left my mind. My friends kept asking me what was wrong but I knew they would never look at me the same if I told them what I had done.

As the years passed, I grew hungry to kill more things. I learned how to shoot moving things out of the sky and on the ground. Although I never told my parents, they suspected that I was doing something wrong. I never did anything with the animals, I just calmly floated them down stream.

Ever since the day I killed my first bird, I've never been the same.

Tomorrow is the first day of 11th grade. I'm not nervous just annoyed that I must spend another 9 months in the same building learning stupid things I'm not going to need in life. We just moved from England. I hope boring old Oklahoma isn't that bad.

~Present~

I lay on my bed staring at the light coming from under my door. I hear foot steps approaching but don't move. They might hear me make sounds I shouldn't be making at 1:30 AM.

Once the foot steps are gone, I slowly and quietly exhale. The wind outside made my window creek.

I wonder what tomorrow has planned for me.
