Chasing Freedom

Prologue

The full moon was glowing brightly in the night sky, as the moonlight shined gently over the forest floor.

A gray and white vixen laid on her leaf bed sleeping soundly. When she opened her eyes little, she was met with a gruesome sight, foxes from left and right were all dead 'no no this can't be happening!' She thought. The vixen jolted at the sight of foxes tods, vixens, adults, and pups were either bleeding out from a medium sized hole in their body or a silver string would grasp tightly at their necks closing off any air to their lungs.

The vixen backed up but was stopped when a burning branch fell behind her, she jumped in shock then jolted in the opposite direction 'i-i have to get out of here!' She started running hoping to escape this madness. But her hopes were futile as everywhere she went she would see nothing but blood, death and fire...

She then stopped when she saw a figure of a tod in front of her, she squinted then gasped "S-Shudder..." She stuttered as the tod turned. She sighed in relief as she saw the soft gold glow in his eyes, she then nuzzled the tod feeling his once cold body filled with warmth.

"I missed you Shudder..." She said quietly as the dark gray tod, brushed his tail over her shoulder "me too Misty" he said softly.

They stayed there for some time before the tod pulled away, a serious look on his face "Shudder? What's wrong?" Misty said squinting her eyes worriedly at him. Shudder stared at her for a split second "you saw that vision...right?" Misty's ears then perked up "yes... I did..." She shuddered at the dark vision. Shudder looked at her, worry clouding his eyes "you have to find him!" He said loudly.

Misty stared at him with a wild expression "wait...wha...who's him?" She said now worried. "Find him! The flame in the darkness, the flame that will lead a path towards a new hope!" Before Misty could ask anything more Shudder started to fade away "wait Shudder! No! Don't leave me again! I need more answers!" She yowled at her now foggy looking mate.

Before he could fully disappear he muttered the words "find him...find Flame..." before Misty could reach out to him she was suddenly engulfed by flames, she yowled as the flames ate into her skin, she thrashed around to fight the blazing fire to no avail, until she heard her name faintly.

"Misty... Misty......MISTY" she then jolted awake, she glanced around wildly, she stopped when she saw her second in command looking at her with a worried expression. She calmed down when she saw him "are...are you ok Misty" he said quietly, she looked down gasping a little "it's ok Howler...I'm fine" she shook her head then laid back down "what is it?" The gray and brown tod stared at her " we managed to get back Mudslide and Tree back from those creatures... Only Mudslide was injured from the escape" Misty calmed down a little "but...we ran into a problem..." Misty looked up at Howler, worry was clouding up her gaze "no...don't tell me..." Howler looked down "Rose is missing..."
