A blind date

07 Nov. 2022

She confirmed the timing and went back to her office desk. She was supposed to meet him at 4pm for coffee. She never agreed to meet anyone's place directly but this time she could not deny that she was a bit attracted by his mysterious behaviors'. She was bored, waiting for her work to end. Blind date was never her type but, this time she was curious to see how it works out for her. As the watch clicked at 3pm. she rushed to the washroom. she was not smiling looking at herself in a mirror. She washed her face, brushed her hair. She looked at her face with a cold look in her eyes trying to remember when was the last time she felt beautiful, when was the last time she smiled looking at herself? She booked a cab and went downstairs. When the cab started, she remembered and called her boyfriend to tell that she was going to be late today. He replied as usual like he never cared. She opened their chats and started reading the previous conversation. She sent him a picture today when he replied with some dumb emojis. Not a single word of affirmation. She craved it for years. She played some music and opened her new blind date's chat. It was cold. They decided to meet in just 15 minutes. She was clueless of the rush she was feeling. The cab stopped and so did her thoughts. She got down and looked around. He was standing in front of a café. She looked at him and faked a smile. It was not new for her to be kind towards strangers. She walked towards him and opened her hair meanwhile. He smiled back and opened a door for her. she walked in, her smile did not fade away.

' What will you have?' he asked

'Cappuccino, maybe'

He went to grab coffee. She did not bother to get up. She was feeling different than usual. She was not new to people working for her but there was still something different in him. He returned with her coffee cup.

'Don't you want anything?'

'No, I am good. so, tell me, how was work today?'

'It went well. I was a bit bored as usual.'

'Don't you enjoy it?'

'I am not very passionate about it. It is good for now.'

'Your eyes sparkle.'

'What?'

'Yes. What are you passionate about?'

'Writing, maybe? I don't usually talk about it.'

'Why not?'

Why not...

Why doesn't she talk about it? She never asked this question to herself. She never told anyone about her dreams. Has anyone ever asked her? or she chose not to reply?

'Hey! Are you good?'

Wait, is someone asking me questions? about my day, dreams? strange! she thought.

'Yes, sorry. What do you do?'

'I am a doctor. I understand when work becomes hectic, it's tough then.'

'Do you enjoy your work?'

'Yes, it has been in the family. Everyone is a doctor.'

'Haha! You do not look studious.'

'Nerd, you mean?'

She smiled and took a sip.

She was not faking a smile. This feeling was new. She looked up, he was staring at her. that made her blush. He smiled.

She looked at him as they got out of a café.

'My apartment is just a block away,' he smiled.

She nodded.
