"𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐊?" I called out from in the hallway of my house. I curled my fingers around the white doorframe and poked my head around the side.

"Hey, you alright?" The man who was standing in the centre of his room replied to me. He was somewhat preoccupied with looping his belt up but all his attention was focused on me as I walked in. Made sense since I was holding his daughter in my arms.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I shifted Judith up my hip a little more before finally planting myself on his mattress, "just wanted to talk I guess. If you're free officer?"

My connection to the whole Grimes family had become tight since they got to Alexandria; Rick was like a brother to me, caring for me when I needed it most. I'd also become increasingly protective of Carl and Judith, his two children. Carl was a little younger than my niece, which reminded me a fuckton of her. And Judith was so small, innocent to everything going on in the world, giving me the urge to keep her as safe as I could when Rick was busy.

"Open all day, sure you're good?" Rick continued, concern for me evident.

"I mean — yeah, but I've been thinking alot more," I admitted, a slight frown falling over my features as I nodded.

"That's a change," Rick joked, grinning as he sat down next to me.

My emotions took me over for a second and I used my spare hand that wasn't wrapped around the baby's head to give the man a shove to the shoulder.

"Okay, okay, I'm sorry," Rick continued to smile gently as he looked at me still, "what're you thinkin' about?"

"I don't know. I think I'm just sick of losing people."

The week before our conversation, there had been a walker infestation in Alexandria, killing Ron, Sam and Jesse along with some other members of the community. It's not as if I wasn't used to loss, I'd lost everything, but I just thought that Alexandria had meant a safe place. Wrong.

"Yeah," Rick drawled, putting a supportive hand on my shoulder.

"Sorry — I just made this really dark," I shook my head gently. "Whats up with you anyway, Grimes? You're never this down all the time."

"Me? Nah, I'm fine, just a little stressed," Rick admitted, stretching and looking over to his daughter. The man stroked the infant's cheek with his middle finger.
