Upon a Midnight Clear

Chapter 1

Hermione was just about to sit down on the couch to read 'It starts with us' when her floo swooshed and she jumped up making Crookshanks take off down the hall. it was almost midnight, so she didn't know why he was flooing this late.

"Jesus Harry! What are you doing calling this late?" Her heart still beating out of her chest.

"Kingsley needs us to come in" Harry said in a rough voice like he just woke up.

"What? Why, what's happened?" she said while running to her room to get her robes.

Harry didn't respond. maybe because she couldn't hear him or because he didn't hear her ask. it still made her more anxious that he didn't answer right away. she was dressed and headed to the front door to grab her shoes when harry finally said something.

"I don't know he sent a message through the coin about 10 minutes ago. I'll meet you there yeah?"

"Yeah, I'll meet you there." she said while casting a charm for her shoes to be tied so she could hurry and grab her stuff she planned on taking in tomorrow to work. She grabbed a handful of floo powder and called out 'Ministery of magic'. When she arrived harry was already there standing by Kingsley, when the floos started to swoosh, she turned around after reaching harry seeing Dean, Semus, Blaze, and Percy. They were all the top auror for the big cases, this had to be something bad if they all had to be called in the middle of the night and at the same time.

"Why are we all here in the middle of the night sir?" dean said walking up to the three of us.

"We will go over it when the others get here." Kingsley said.

"Others? sir this is all of us that work on the big cases" Semus said looking around at everyone. the floo swooshed and everyone turned to see who was walking out. Theodore Nott walked out just as the floo swooshed again and Draco Malfoy walked out, they both started to walk toward us. Theo had a smile on his face while Draco looked like he didn't want to be there.

"They aren't aurors what are they doing here?" Percy said looking at them and back to Kingsley.

"As of today, they are" Kingsley said in a voice that sounded like he didn't want to hear anymore from anyone about it. When they reached us, blaze shook Theo's hand and gave him a pat on the back and did the same with Draco.

"Now if you will all follow me to the meeting room, we will discuss why you are all here this late." Kingsley said walking towards to door.

Hermione was the first to enter the room after Kingsley she sat down in her normal seat next to harry who sits next to the minister. While everyone took their seats waiting for Kingsley to start the meeting Harry went to the other side of the room and brewed some coffee for everyone. Harry brought the coffee he just brewed to the table for everyone to get while the meeting was taking place, she reached up grabbed a cup and poured the black coffee into the cup while plopping two sugars and a splash of milk into it, it was what she really needed the most especially since she barley gets any sleep at night. She took a sip letting the hot liquid roll down her throat and sat back in her chair and waited for Kingsley to start.

"There have been a couple death eaters in Rome that have been sighted right before I called you all." Kingsley started while putting down the file on the table with a plop. Harry let out a sigh next to her.

"Do we know who they are? how many there is?" Harry asks. Kingsley pushed the file towards harry and he opened it scanning over it and started reading it out loud.

"Antionon Dolohov, Augustus Rookwood, Corban Yaxley, Walden Mcnair, and Fenrir Greyback." Harry looked up to the minister "But sir all these death eaters have been in Azkaban for two years."

Kingsley looked at him and said "They escaped tonight...."

"WHAT--"

"--How is that possible--"

"--That can't be righ---"

"--that's impossible--" Everyone started at the same time you couldn't even hear anything.

"It seems like they had help from the outside, I need you all to go to Rome for the time being and track them down before they start back where they left off." there was no time for questions we had to get going we had no idea where they were right now or what they were doing or planning on doing but we couldn't just sit around asking questions.

"Everything you might want to ask is in the file. I've called Draco Malfoy and Theodore Nott here today because they know how they plan, how they run things. I will have the portkey ready for Rome in one hour, please grab your things and get everything situated before you come back here, we don't know how long you will be gone for so pack what you can."

Hermione had so much stuff to do before she had to leave, she was basically making a check list in her head. As everyone had so many questions to ask there wasn't any time to do so, we all go up and out of the meeting room and Hermione took off towards to floo to go back to her flat and pack up and take Crookshanks to ginny. Shes the only person that Crookshanks will let watch him other than harry. Making her way to the floo she saw harry coming around the corner.

"Harry!" she yelled maybe a little too loud making his head jolt towards her.

"Sorry, but do you think Ginny can watch crook while were gone?" she asked desperate because she didn't want to take him to the burrow this late at night and they would have a ton of questions and I don't have time for any of that right now.

"Yeah, just bring him by before you head back here, I'm sure she would love the company while were gone." He smiled knowing crook gets on her last nerve when I'm away for so long.

"Okay yea thanks I'll see you in a while." Hermione said with a smile while grabbing the floo powder and calling out her address.
