1- I'm sorry... WHAT?!?

I had basically just sat at home most of the time, other than going to work and hanging out with my best friend Yuqi. I don't like too much social interaction because it exhausts me. Even if I went out with Yuqi it would only be for a couple of hours before my social battery ran out. So this time it wasn't any different. Yuqi had dragged me out to a nearby restaurant that was super crowded. "Qi, why are we here? You know this is too many people." I said and groaned in annoyance when Yuqi completely ignored me and dragged me to a table. When we sat down I sat across from Yuqi because I felt it was better to face the person you're hanging out with or talking to. "Sooooooo how ya been?" Yuqi asked. I rolled my eyes and said "I've been okay, I miss my bed but someone said I needed to see the sun." Yuqi have me a playful glare. "Cause you do! Have you seen your skin??? People would think you're a vampire." Yuqi said. I sigh and rest my head on my hands with a pout. "Don't give me that face, you know I'm right." Yuqi said poking my cheek.

Yuqi and I ordered food and sat in silence. Until I decided to tease her. "How are you and Soyeon?" I asked her and sipped on my drink. Yuqi blushed and liked startled. "What do you mean? We're not together." Yuqi said defensively. "Yeah but you like her, it's obvious." I say pointing to her bright red cheeks. Yuqi batted my hand away and proceeded to look at the table the rest of the time.

When they left the restaurant some people had recognized Yuqi and came up to ask for pictures. Yuqi and I had a plan in place for when stuff like this happened. I'm supposed to walk away and meet her a block away so it makes it seem like we don't know each other. Yuqi passes me a glance as I walk away and then turns back to her fans.

As I'm walking my heart starts to hurt. My eyes widen and I look around to see if anyone was feeling the same pain. I don't see anyone and the pain in my heart slowly dies down till there's no pain left. I pout and huff, disappointed. You wanna know why I'm disappointed? The pain in my heart was the pain of my mate being near. In my world people have mates, normally you can get 1-2 mates but in rare cases there are more. Some people don't have a mate though, like Yuqi and Soyeon. For a long time I thought I didn't have a mate. We don't have any indicators that we have mates until we get close to one. Sometimes your able to smell them to. We know we're close when we get a pain in our heart. Is only felt it once before back when I was eighteen and I couldn't pin point who it was then either. After that first encounter I went home to discover a blue star on my arm surrounded by small tattoo like swirl details. With mates you don't have to bite each other to get a mark, just have to get decently close. It was a decent size on my arm and it looked like it was incomplete, which confused me. I shrugged it off just happy I had a soulmate. There's a 2nd stage to mate marks as well, when the soulmates bond and become more intimate the soulmate marks colors will brighten and intensify, some of them even start to smell like the mate, and the mates name will get added onto the mate mark when the pair (or more) have been fully intimate and have bonded, meaning they have then bitten and fully marked the person.

Yuqi came over to me ten minutes after the whole mate heart burning thing. "Hey what's got you down?" She asked and sat down next to me on the curb I was sitting on. "I got close to a mate again. I don't know who it is or if it's the same person as the first time." I whine out. "Well have you checked for any new marks?" She asked. I shook my head no and she said "Well then, let's check. Take your hoodie off." I laughed and said teasingly "Are you asking me to undress in front of you?" Yuqi rolled her eyes and pushed me playfully while I laughed my ass off. "We're both gay." She said bluntly, "Plus I know you always wear something underneath a hoodie." She continued. I finished giggling and removed my hoodie and revealed my tank top and my mate mark on my arm. Yuqi examined me before she gasped and started poking me on the back of my shoulder. "What? Why'd you gasp?" I asked her, slightly worried. "You have a new one, it's similar to your first one but the star is white." She replied and moved back into my line of vision. When I looked at her she had a confused face. "What?" I asked her. She looked at me with quizzical eyes. "Normally mate marks aren't that far apart. Your blue one is almost to your wrist but the white one is on the back of your shoulder. Sure they're big but normally they would connect somewhere but yours seem almost separate." She mumbled to her self. We both say there for a little wondering what was going on before we got up and decided to walk back to my house.

When we got to my house Yuqi made herself comfortable on my couch as I went to my room to change into something more comfortable. When I got back out Yuqi was waiting for me. "Sit." She said in a voice that told me we are about to have a serious talk. I gulp and sat on the opposite side of the couch but faced her. "Listen, I think you may have more than the usual one to two mates." She says with a serious face. Normally I would have laughed and thought she was joking but Yuqi isn't one to joke during serious conversations. "I'm sorry...WHAT?!?" I said with a shout. Yuqi jumped slightly at my sudden loudness and glared at me. "Shush! You told me yourself you have thin walls." She said, scolding me. I put my hands over my mouth and looked at her in shock. "Well how many do you think I have???" I ask her. Yuqi shrugs. "I don't know, I'm just pretty sure you have more than most people. Mate marks are supposed to connect but yours are far apart, too far apart for even a third one to connect them."

I think I sat there stunned for too long because Yuqi started snapping her fingers in front of my face. "Y/n, Y/n, you there? Are you with me?" She asked, feeling for my pulse in my wrist. "I think I need to sit down." I said. Yuqi looked at me like I was dumb. "You're already sitting." She said. I nodded and laid down. She sighed and waited for me to collect myself. After a few more minutes I let out a long breath and sat back up. "Are you feeling better?" Yuqi asked me with a concerned look. I have her a thumbs up and said "Yeah, I just need some time to process the fact that I most likely have more than three mates." Yuqi nodded understandingly. "I know I don't know much considering I took the test to see if I had a mate and it was negative, but I actually think it'll be good for you." She said. I looked at her confused. "I know you struggle with loving yourself so having more than three mates to love you might be the universe trying to make up for you not loving yourself." She explained. I look at her even more confused. "What are you taking about?" I asked. Yuqi sighs and looks me in the eyes. "You think I don't notice how you hide yourself. Every time you go out you're wearing a hoodie and baggy pants. You can't take compliments, and you hide yourself in your apartment. That's why I drag you out, I'm afraid that if I don't get you out you'll spend the rest of your life lonely and miserable. And so knows, maybe your mates will teach you how to love yourself." She said with a sad smile. I had started tearing up and pulled her in for a hug, making her cry as well.

After a couple more hours hanging out Yuqi had to go. "Idol shit, you know?" She had said with a laugh as she made her way out. When she left I decided to lay down in the middle of my living room to contemplate life. How in the hell did someone like me end up with more than the normal amount of mates. What am I supposed to do if I actually find them? Will I find all of them? Are they looking for me? What the hell am I supposed to do with this knowledge?
