Chapter 1: Awakened As A Reptile

AN: Hey everyone. Before I begin, I just want to say this will be my first isekai that doesn't have a human protagonist, but a human turned into a creature protagonist. That's right, I'm gonna do the most well known animal that hasn't had a manga, manhua or donghua out yet. My new main character is none other than...a snake. I'm pretty knowledgeable on animals so I'm gonna use what I know so far about snakes in this story, but also use the fantasy elements too. I was thinking of doing this story for a few days and I want to get started on it. And don't worry about my other stories, I'm gonna get to those too. So, with all of this out of the way, let's get started. Enjoy😊

I awoke to the sun beating down on my face and being surrounded by tall green grass. All sorts of thoughts were rushing through my mind; like, who was I, how did I end up here and so on. I tried to get up, but I felt that I couldn't. I also felt like I had no arms and no legs to lift me up and I wondered, that's weird. But I felt not all was lost, I had the ability to crawl across the ground, which in my mind was okay.

I still don't know why I was crawling or even what I was and I was hoping to find something to show my reflection. Fortunately, I saw a small puddle on the ground and I crawled my way over to it hoping to get a drink of water. However, when I looked at myself in the water, I soon realized why I was a crawling and why I had no arms or legs; I was a snake!

I couldn't believe what I was seeing, somehow I was reborn as one of the most well known reptiles ever. I mean, they've been used in many stories and myths, they even have a spot on the Chinese zodiac calendar and there are so many different species of different sizes and colors. They're even used in some B-rated creature features, i.e. movies, and they're shown as power hungry killers. Shaking all that out of my mind, I was still confused as to why I was reincarnated as a snake.

Looking closer at my reflection, I saw I had dark brown scales with a cream yellow underbelly and light yellow eyes. After looking some more at my reflection, I pulled away and started to pace while slithering and I thought, okay, don't panic. Don't panic! Just because you're a snake now doesn't it's the end of the world. You can get through this...somehow. A few minutes later, I suddenly felt the urge to eat something and I almost slapped myself with my own tail because obviously I was hungry.

Pretty soon, I started to slither on the ground using my forked tongue to smell for anything that snakes eat. Just then, I noticed a little gray mouse eating seeds and I thought, that little guy will be the perfect snack to start with. I hunched down as far as I could and slowly started to crawl towards my prey. Once I was close enough, I launched towards the mouse opening my mouth wide enough and latched onto it.

Remembering that snakes don't chew their food, I slowly began to swallow the mouse down my throat until it was all the way inside my body and down to my stomach with a big gulp. I smiled to myself and thought, that hit the spot. Suddenly, a small screen flashed in front of my face and it said: 'Level 2 gained. Skill points gained: 1. Evolution points gained: 1.'

Staring at the screen, I got confused and thought, level 2? What did I do to do that? All I did was eat a little mouse! And then it clicked in me and I thought, could it be because I ate that mouse I raised a level? I then stared at the skill and evolution points and thought, and the more creatures I eat, the more points I get and the more I'll grow? I then began to imagine myself as a big giant snake roaming these woods and being it's ruler.

I smiled and thought that would be nice if I became the king or queen of this forest I'm in. But then, another thought struck me and I thought to myself, wait a minute, what gender am I anyway? I tried to think if I'm a male or female snake because I remembered hearing from someone in my old world that male snakes have two penises and female snakes have a vent. Males also have thicker and longer tails while females have short and thin.

I looked behind me at my tail and lifted it a bit and I saw it was short and thin and judging from what I can feel on my underside, I have a vent. So that means I was reborn as a female snake even though I don't even remember who I originally was, but that doesn't matter now. What does matter, is I'm a female level two snake in another world and my main goal now is to eat as many things as I can and grow my points and level so I can get bigger.

Slithering around using my tongue, I soon came across a bird's nest on the ground with three eggs inside. I took caution as I approached the nest not knowing when the mother bird will be back. As soon as I got to the nest, I opened my mouth wide and did my best to fit the first egg into it. I slowly swallowed the egg inside until I could feel its contents enter my stomach and then I opened my mouth again and spat out the shell that was once the egg. I did same thing to the other two eggs and spat out the shells into the nest and I thought to myself as I closed my eyes in prayer, please forgive me mother bird for your babies became my meal.

It was then that the screen appeared before me again and this time it said, 'Level 5 gained. Skill points gained: 4. Evolution points gained: 4.'

When I saw that, I was surprised that I reached level five just by eating three bird eggs and gained more points too. The screen then showed me a message and it said, 'Spend 2 skill points to gain new skill? Yes or No?'

I began to think if I landed in an MMORPG or something given how this screen is talking to me. Thinking it would be good to spend a couple points, I pressed my snake nose onto 'YES' and soon the screen said, 'Skill gained: Clairvoyance.'

Seeing that, I thought, clairvoyance, huh? A pretty good skill to have if your a snake. I soon crouched low in the grass to test it out and soon, my eyes started to glow and to my surprise, I can see all the plants and animals roaming around the forest. Pretty soon, I slithered onto a rock, lifted myself up straight and thought as I was looking out over the forest, I'm gonna continue working hard and growing my level. Once I'm big enough, I'll be able to lay claim to this entire forest.

I also made a vow that when I do become big, I'll stay away from human settlements and just stick to the creatures around me. That way, I won't bother the humans and they won't bother me. However, little did I know that I would have a chance encounter with a certain human and it'll change everything for me.
