[20] An unpleased Lorax

Y/n Pov:

Everything went normal after our misunderstanding. I still went to the club, but stopped talking so much about Jake and just showed Onceler my progress and what kind of stuff I learned in general.

One day Onceler and I were working together again. It was a pretty stressful day, because we saw that the tree material won't grow back fast enough, so we thought about things we could do to still get more sales.

"This isn't good, Oncie. I can't think of anything that would solve the problem. The only thing we could do is expansion the forest. But that is rather...dumb" He sighted and sat back into his chair "I know... I know..." I thought about stopping to expand the company or even shitting it down completely, but I was sure the Onceler wouldn't like that. Also, I had no right to tell him that he had to restrict himself any further. It was hard enough to get his greed under control. He is doing good for so long now!

A weird sound came from the back door. We both looked at it with wide eyes. "You heard that too, right?" Onceler asked me, a bit scared. "Yeah.. I did." I said, slowly going to the door to open it. The Onceler followed me, even though he just stayed behind me. Not gonna lie, it is kinda cute how he's scared sooo easily. Even though it must look funny, how a tall guy like him would hide behind me.

Right after I opened the door, my worries were all gone, because it was just the Lorax standing infront of the doorway. He looked mad at something. "What are you doing here?" I carefully asked. He huffed "You manged to keep the forest safe a couple of month, but now almost every tree has no material (idk how to call it, sry) on top. Care to explain?"

We looked at each other, thinking about how we could talk our way out of this. The Onceler stepped in front of me and adjusted his tie to let his nervousness fade away. "Don't worry, we were just thinking about how we could stop that." - "I have a great idea. How about shutting this whole thing down? You made enough money, didn't you??" I felt how the air got thicker from them after those words "What is that supposed to mean?! I'm doing my best to get everything we both want and you are just here thinking about yourself" - "Please stop..." I silenty said.

The Lorax rolled his eyes "This is my purpose! To talk for the trees, and not for a guy that wants money just because he has nothing else to getting life!" - "Guys..." I said again, a bit angrier. Onceler voice got louder "You better watch you mouth!! I'm not just doing this for myself, you hear me?!" - "I said STOP!" I almost screamed. Both of them looked at me, getting silent in a second. "We won't agree on anything if we mindlessly fight like that!" I crossed my arms while both of them nodded to my statement, realizing themselves that it got out of hand way too quickly. "You're right, darling. I'm sorry." Onceler said, looking at me with a apologetic eyes. How could I stay mad at him, when he did that?

"It's okay, just focus on getting an agreement, okay?" I gently put my hands on his cheeks to caress them a bit while he closed his eyes. "I will" We were used to treat urselfes like that, so we didn't notice how the Lorax was surprised on how we acted together "Don't tell me.. Y/n!" My hands got away from Oncelers face when I looked at him "What..?" - "I told you to look after him and not to... Whatever you're doing now! You should have known better!"

I groaned at him while the Onceler was confused of the words he said. "Why didn't you look at him yourself? I know he's not a bad person, so why would I look after him, like if he would do something bad. The only thing I did, was helping him if he had troubles. But I didn't do that because you said so, because I wanted to!" I didn't saw it, but Oncelere got a small blush from my words. But the Lorax was almost too stunned to speak. "You're so stubborn! What if he was a bad person? What then?" I sulked "Stop with those "what if.." questions! That so stupid!".

He sighted as he turned around, so he won't have to fave us anymore "How long have you been together?" Onceler and I looked at each other for a while "Maybe four month or longer?" I answered, not even that sure ourselfes. "THAT long?! What the- how did I not notice?" Onceler and I were confused "What do you mean? No way, did you watch us!?" He said in shock of realization "No-" The Lorax answered, still looking away from us. We gasped "You did! But not like when we-". He finally turned around while the Onceler putted a hand on my mouth to stop me front speaking any further "When you did what?" The Lorax asked "Nothing, really, haha!" Onceler quickly said with a big smile "Anyway, we have to go now, you know, think about what we can do for the forest and stuff. See ya!"

He took his hand, that was on my mouth till now, to take my hand and get inside, leaving the Lorax outside. "You didn't need to ask that, y/n..-" He said, quite embarrassed. "I'm sorry, I was just curious" I said while looking sheepishly to him. "I really don't wanna know, if the Lorax saw us or not. So please, just don't mention that again, okay?" Onceler said, sighting a bit. I just nodded while he pat my head for a while.

"Now what do you think we should do..?" He tiredly said, looking at the clock that said 9 p.m. "You know... What if we really shut down the company.. " I quietly said. His hand was stopping the patting and his still tired eyes were now more serious "Are you actually thinking that would be an option? This is the most greatful thing I did my whole life.. You know that, sweety!" I looked down, because I understand him very well and I know how important this company is for him. "I'm sorry, I just thought it would be worth thinking about, you know? It isn't like we won't live good without it and I'm sure your name won't be forgotten.. Not with how much your Thneeds were able to spread all over the world.."

He sighted and gave me a kiss on the head "We'll find another solution, okay? But I don't want you to think about this ever again, yes? Didn't you told me that this method would be great for a long therm buissness? So let's keep it that way" I snuggled myself into his chest while a nodded a bit. I was too tired to talk back right now and to be honest, it wasn't worth fighting for that.

"Yes.. Wanna go home?" His hands were on my back, stroking it gently. With a smile he softly said: "Yes, let's go home and get some rest. You must be tired, right? But you have to bathe with me or I'll get grumpy" I chuckled and looked up to him to smile back "Sure, a bath sounds really good!"

We looked at each other for a while, enjoying the nice quietness in the room and the warmth we gave each other. "I love you.." I randomly said, looking like it would have been the last time I would be able to tell him that "I love you so much more. You can't ever change that." He said back, with the same face. "You're silly... And I love that about you" I laughed a bit and he did the same. "I'll always be your silly boy" He added with joy. I was so lucky to have him.

(At first: Thanks for the 2,5k+ reads and sorry for the late update. I kinda got tired after uploading a chapter every day for almost three weeks :')
