It was supposed to be a usual day

One filled with work humor and inside jokes

Today felt different though

I don't know why

I kissed Kate and headed off to work like I did every morning

Nothing new or unusual

Yet something still felt off

It was probably the Starbucks breakfast and coffee

I need to go on a diet

I take the elevator to the 78th floor, and sit at my desk, getting started on the work that was expected of me for that day and the next

Kate's birthday is tomorrow and I still need to pick up her gift

An engagement ring

After 3 years of being the love of my life, I wanted to make sure it stays that way forever

My unruly dirty blonde curls fell into my eyes, and as much as Kate wanted me to get a hair cut I simply refused

Never, could I ever, go without my precious locks of sandy hair

My words exactly

And so I sat at my desk, pushing my fingers through my hair to keep my vision, as I worked on today's papers, ready to finish them by lunch and go home

To Kate

Forever

Well, at least until Thursday
