Present Day

A week had passed since the loss of Akaashi's sister, and he found himself taking on the primary responsibility of caring for his niece

With both of his parents occupied with work, Akaashi had taken a few weeks off to ensure that Kazuko received the support she needed

As Akaashi prepared his breakfast, he held the baby in his arms, gently bouncing her to soothe her

Fatigue settled over him, evident from the sleep-deprived look in his eyes. While he and his parents usually took turns caring for the baby, Akaashi had taken on the majority of the responsibility

A realization struck him: his father seemed distant and uninvolved when it came to Kazuko and the baby. It was as if she was invisible to him, likely still coping with the shock of his daughter's passing.

Placing Kazuko back in her crib, Akaashi sat at the dining table, eating his breakfast while simultaneously working on his laptop. He managed to write some emails before an important meeting

After finishing his meal, Akaashi washed his dishes and quietly checked on Kazuko, relieved to find her still sleeping

He then entered his meeting, laptop open and ready. However, after only about 15 minutes, cries emerged from the other side of the room

Akaashi excused himself from the meeting and hurriedly went to pick up the baby, cradling her in his arms

He sighed softly, feeling exhausted as he sat back down, holding Kazuko and trying to calm her down

He apologized to his colleagues for the interruption, all the while balancing the responsibilities of work and caretaking

Amidst the meeting, one of his colleagues, intrigued by the unexpected presence of a baby, questioned Akaashi. "When did you have a child, Akaashi?"

Akaashi replied softly, "Oh, she's not mine. It's my sister's baby..."

The man expressed surprise, saying, "I didn't know she got married."

Akaashi quickly redirected the conversation, wanting to refocus on the matter at hand. "Yeah, anyway, back to your client," he said, subtly shifting the topic away from personal matters

After the meeting, Akaashi sat on the couch as his mind raced with thoughts and possibilities as he held his niece in his arms, observing her golden eyes

The unfamiliar feature made him wonder about her biological father, a question he had set aside out of respect for his sister's wishes.

An idea suddenly struck Akaashi, one that could potentially lighten his own load and involve the father in sharing the responsibility for Kazuko

He believed that if he could identify the father, he could negotiate a shared caretaking arrangement, allowing him to resume his normal life while still looking after his niece

Decisively, Akaashi called over one of his bodyguards, handing him the baby for the moment, before grabbing his phone to make an important call

He dialled the number of his friend Oikawa, who specialized in biological science.

"Hey, Oikawa," Akaashi greeted

"Hey, Kashi! Where have you been? It feels like ages since we last saw each other," Oikawa complained

Akaashi sighed and replied, "It's a long story, Oikawa. But right now, I need you to do something for me."

Curiosity piqued, Oikawa asked, "Sure, what is it?"

"I need you to perform a DNA test for me," Akaashi stated, his tone serious.

"A DNA test? For whom?" Oikawa inquired, sensing the importance of the request.

"My niece," Akaashi revealed, his voice filled with determination. "And I need it done as quickly as possible."

Oikawa's curiosity turned into intrigue as he realized the significance of the situation. "Alright, Kashi. I'll do it for you. Just give me the necessary details, and I'll get it done as soon as I can."

Akaashi thanked his friend before providing him with the needed information "I'll send you a sample soon"

As he ended the call, a mix of hope and uncertainty washed over him. He understood that finding the father could potentially bring a significant change to their lives, but he was willing to take that risk for the sake of his own well-being and the future of his niece
