This chapter begins with Clovis a 26 years old chef living in paris, 25 years ago humanity discovered that an old japanese legend where our soulmates and ourselves are linked for eternity by an invisible red string, this legend was only seen as a myth but when two people had their red strings glowing because they came in proximity of each other. The legend was real and what a shitshow it was. The year it was proven, it was the first time the world saw such a high wave of breakups, people breaking off their wedding or engagement because they wanted to meet their soulmates. Clovis's parents were not an exception. His mother leaving his father a year after their son's birth. Raising a child while being single is hard and it was hard managing the taxes, the rent of their two room apartment, the food and Clovis's nanny. She was a nice girl reducing her fees because she too had her heart broken by her ex-girlfriend who went searching for a soulmate without knowing where it could be. His father was lucky to have met his soulmate when his son was three because he had difficulty. She was truly his father's soulmate. They liked the same song, had the same type of humor, laughed at all of his jokes and she had such a chemistry with Clovis making Clovis's father if his ex-wife was truly the boy's mother or if this woman was. They got married when the future chef was 12 and his first comment was "Finally I thought this ring was gonna be in the drawer until I would be leaving for cooking school." Making his father laugh, his step-mother a bit less. They lived happily ever after and are still living it being healthy and lovey dovey with each other even when they both reached their mid-fifties. Clovis was less lucky than his dad in love. The poor boy had his heart broken by girls 5 times and the fifth was by far the one that made him question if he truly deserves to be loved and he gave up on it. Instead of focussing on what he thought would be a lost cause he devoted his heart and soul to manage to get a chef greatest honor : A Michelin star. Proof of his effort not being wasted. He knew he had a soulmate but he'd make no type of effort to acknowledge those types of relationships. They broke his father's heart but they broke his one too many time.
