Silver

In a black and white world,
There lives a girl,
Dressed up in all silver.

At one point, she forgot her name.
Because every time she stepped out of her door frame.
Someone would scream 'SILVER' as if it was a shame.
Her head would bend low and it got to the point that her black curly locks
Were bleached by their disgust

She went on with school,
Being used
As if she didn't matter and nothing cared
And yelled at for being nothing but a ' Silver Born fool'

No matter the words spat against her curves,
No matter the phrases intertwined with her shining shoe laces,
She continued to dress brightly, out shining the supposed ' mighty '

She refused to wear all black, to fit in
But she shook her head at white, percieved as the opposite of sin.
And meeting in the middle with a dull grey,
She'd make a face, and walk away.

But all things come crashing,
Her self esteem was clashing,
And their hateful smirks, and pushes of hurt,
We're only causing more dull flashing

She began to fall,
She reminded herself, that silver wasn't even her name, after all.
And staring at a mirror,
She looked deep within
Till her soul traveled on, farther away
Her emotions slipped, and she had no reason to stay.

In a black and white world,
Children are taught that 'Different is Bad '
That ' anything that's not in between, or solid, isn't intact '
That 'Silvers unnatural ' and it's just a ' trend '
That when something goes wrong, don't go to a friend.

Yet as red ran clear on the girls brilliant skin
They sobbed in jealousy and shook their heads at their own sin .
Reminded themselves it's okay to be odd
That silver isn't an abnormality or fault.
That the world truly isn't black and white.

Here's the sad part,
Though they are right.
Within two weeks her color will fade
And everything will be back to the same
One way, or no way.
Black or white.

Until something different appears
And out of fright
They force the new Silver out of sight.
