I grabbed the remote and shut it off. My mom is still alive, is a criminal, and has a sister? Why didn't dad tell me any of this? Why did I have to learn this from the News instead of him? What else is he keeping from me? How much of my life is being kept from me? This isn't fair. I get off the couch and walk back up to my room, closing the door behind me and sitting in front of my computer. The screen turned on and I signed in. Clicking on google, I searched up my Aunt's name. I clicked on a picture of her. She looks a lot like my mother. But what about her background?
Clicking on a link, it takes me to a website with more info about Emily. But before the website could load, the power went out, leaving me staring at a black screen. I groaned in frustration. Why does the power always feel the need to go out when I am doing something important? So not fair.
A loud crash from downstairs makes me jump. Turning my head to the door to listen, I hear muffled footsteps slowly make their way towards the stairs. I tiptoe to my door and lock it as quietly as I can. Putting my ear up to the door, I heard footsteps across the hall from my room, before they stopped and the sound of a door opening echoed throughout the cold empty house. I backed away from the door and inched towards my bed. I grabbed my hoodie and put it on as fast as I could and silently went over to the window. I opened it and before I could get onto the roof, the intruder started banging on my door. I screamed and scrambled out the window and onto the wet roof. I looked up and saw the dark clouds in the sky. Well, that explains why the roof was wet. The sounds of wood splitting and someone running snapped me back to reality. Why couldn't I just have a normal life? First the time loop, then my crush goes crazy and murders everyone and now this? What's next?
I scrambled to my feet and jumped off the roof and onto a tree branch, narrowly missing the hand that was trying to grab my leg. Before I could climb anywhere, someone below me called my name. I looked down and my eyes widened. He was here. He motioned for me to jump out of the tree, but I shook my head no. I was not going to trust him. Not again.
"Bennett you gotta jump! I'll catch you, I promise! C'mon!"
The sound of glass smashing came from behind me, my head snapping towards the sound to see that the intruder had smashed my window so they could climb out. I looked back down at Mike and then back to the intruder, and jumped. The wind whistled as I fell, my hair going above my head. Mike caught me in his arms just as the intruder climbed onto the branch I had been sitting on, moments before. Mike ran towards a black car on the other side of the street, carrying me in his arms, bridal style. I looked back at my house to see the guy jump from the tree and land on the ground. He stayed there for a while before getting up. I felt my feet touch the ground and I turned my attention to Mike. He took a key out of his pocket and unlocked the car door. He grabbed my shoulder and opened the back door on the driver's side and shoved me inside.
"Buckle up. Don't argue and don't try anything funny Benny. I know you don't trust me but we don't have time for this."
He slammed the door and got into the driver's seat, locking the doors just as the guy appeared in front of mine. He tried to open it, before banging on the window with his fists. "Bennett! Put the seatbelt on NOW!!" I quickly grabbed the seatbelt as Mike started the car. Hearing it click in place, Mike put the car in drive, he honked the horn and sped down the road, leaving the guy behind.
We sped down the road, turning every now and then. There were so many questions that I wanted to ask, but I didn't think now was the time to bombard a killer who was in control of our lives with questions. So I looked at the window to try and figure out where we were going. I saw an old lawn gnome by the side of the road and dread washed over me. I knew where he was taking me. We were going back to the cabin. The very place that had started all of this. The very place that I had been going to since the time loop had started.
