Chapter 2

I had been out in the woods for nearly an hour now and I had better head back to school, I felt the fresh hair hit my face as I darted out of the depth of the forest, my soft brown hair flying backwards as it tried to catch up with me, I felt a rush as I ran; I felt free. I opened my eyes wide revealing my golden pupils and opened up my mouth as my fangs grew larger. No, I am not a vampire, neither am I a wolf, am a part of the confluctional conduct.

Just thinking about it brought back memories I slowed down as they all started rushing back to me, no, I cannot go through it again, it is merely too painful. Too late I was already trapped in the vision of past times. I felt a cold finger run down my neck; it was too dark for me to see anything. I felt extensive pain at the back of my leg as If it had been slit with a thin blade leaving a deep painful cut.

I was steps away from revealing myself to the outside world, I instantly stopped and stepped back a little disappearing into the darkness of the shadows of the trees. When I came out into the open my eyes were their original brown and my fangs had gone I was now just ordinary new girl Stevie.

I started running again but at a humanly pace now, I wasn’t lazy this time, I made sure that I was definitely not going to be seen. I need to make sure Chris doesn’t know. I waited in the car park for Dylan leaning against his car looking casual.

I waved at him as he came out through the school entrance. When we were settled and in the car Dylan started up the car.

“So, how was class.” He asked

“Fine,” I said

“Anything happen,”

“Nope,” I said expressionless

“What’s with you and one worded answers? Anyway, I know you’re lying.”

I looked at Dylan “How?” I asked this question even though I already knew the answer. There was a fight in class and the teacher was injured, I had read Dylan’s mind.

“There was a fight in class and the teacher was injured.” Told you.

“So what if I didn’t go, I’ve passed all my classes since 7th grade with B’s or above.” It’s true, even though I flunk most of my classes I study like a madman at home. Thanks to dad.

“We’re here,” Dylan steeped out of the car.

I looked up at our mansion, damn was I gonna get me one of these one day, maybe I’ll inherit this one. I walked away from the drive way and up the stairs to my house.

“We’re home!” Dylan said

I threw my coat onto the coat hanger and it missed, not that I was thinking of going back to pick it up.

“Stevie Hallowell!” I heard my dad’s voice booming from the bottom of the stair case.

I started walking backwards and turned around on the last step, “Yes dad,” I sulked

“The reason I didn’t get any maids was so that you could clean up after yourself,” He looked at my coat lying on the floor.

I picked up my coat and hung it on the hanger, I smiled sweetly at him.

“That’s my girl, now where was that hug you promised?” He opened up his arms and I ran towards him and he returned my bear hug; yes it’s true, I’m a daddy’s girl.

The phone started ringing. “I’ll get it,” I ran to the kitchen to pick up the wall phone.

“Hello,” I said through the speaker. Silence.
