"I'm Jaime Delgado"

Start from the beginning

My soccer coach ran up to me telling me that my grandma passed away from a heart attack.

At first I thought I was dreaming like I was in my head for a minute but when I saw my coach's blue eyes watering up I knew it was true.

I was hysterical I fell to the ground sobbing and screaming for it to be a cruel lie, a cruel joke being played on me but it wasn't, the only person who I had in my life, who I had left had died and I wasn't even there with her on her last moments of living.

She was my light in a storm full of thunder clouds.

My friends drove me to the hospital where she had passed. I held her hand admiring her grey hair that was previously put into braids and I stayed there for hours crying wishing I told her much she really meant to me, I stayed so long in the room, the doctors had to rip my hands off of hers, having no other choice.

During her funeral the only people who came were Jessica, her twin brother James and my grandma's best friend, Elise. We stood in the rain and had the funeral my grandma wanted. I ended up spending the night at Jessica's house after the funeral and I practically moved in with her not being able to stay in my childhood home without her.

Shortly after, I had found out I inherited the house I grew up in with my grandma, along with 7,000 dollars I had no idea about, I didn't even know she knew what a will was considering she was always so "old school" about things and then she had some small things like jewelry and pictures she wanted to leave me.

I ended up selling the house, I wanted to keep it; wanted to raise my children in that home but my grandma always told me if something happened I should sell her house to be happy, so that's what I did and it would be hard living in there anyway.

After everything happened I finished the rest of school and I ended up choosing to go to Fordham university, I even got a scholarship.

I ended up moving to New York with Jessica, we ended up getting accepted to the same college, I used my inheritance money to buy an apartment for the both of us.

I graduated with a journalism degree and she graduated along with me with a degree in biology.

Soon after graduation I went through some of the worst internships and part time jobs I've ever been through.

I was paid less than my bosses who were paid triple what I got and I did most of their work.

Once I was sent to go pick up the results to an sti test for one of my bosses and when it came out positive I had to tell his wife, I ended up quitting that very day after his wife thought I was the one who gave it to him.

I hated everyone during those stupid years of absolute torture, but shortly after I got a job at Mediaex, a company that shares all kinds of news starting from small things like celebrities to big things like peace movements held in different countries.

I was finally at a spot that I needed to be.

Now I'm here in New York and I practically run this company. Technically I'm not the official boss but I might as well become one.

I help run all kinds of news stories around the world.

I love my job, I feel free every time I enter this office, I finally feel at peace.

I know if my grandma was still here she would've absolutely been proud of me.

I ended up moving out of the apartment I lived in with Jessica and moved in with my long term boyfriend.

Jess said she was sad that I moved out but I can tell she secretly loves living alone.

She got a really good paying job at some sort of lab and she's been the happiest she's ever been.

As I was thinking about everything going on in my life the ringing sound of the office phone made me get out of my thoughts.

"Alexandria Flores speaking, how can I help you?"

"Andie? It's me, my car broke down can you pick me up after you're done with work please?"

"Jess? Yeah of course I can, I'm on my way, send me your location."

I hung up the phone and clocked out running to my car in a hurry to go get her.

When I got to where Jess sent me to, there she was in har car playing candy crush, and when she saw me she smiled happily and ran to my car.

"Jessica, what happened?"

"I don't know, all I know is that some emoji popped up on my dashboard a couple months ago and I ignored it and my car still worked until today. I just drive the car I don't pay that much attention to it."

I felt like I lost brain cells listening to what she said.

She works in science, and she works with math sometimes too and she's extremely smart but it's not showing very much when she said that.

I gave her a hug and called my boyfriend Ryan to come help Jess with her car.

After we fixed the car situation I went home with Ryan, got ready for bed and we laid in each other's arms until we fell asleep watching tv.

The next morning I woke up with Ryan's arms being wrapped around me, I watched a small smile appear as he slept, probably from one of his dreams.

After admiring him I slivered out of his hold and got ready for work. I straightened my hair and put it up in a sleek low bun, I put some makeup on to cover some small imperfections I had and proceeded to get dressed.

After putting on a light pink blush and a black pencil skirt accompanied with some black heels and simple jewelery, I rushed out the door.

When I entered the building the smell of printing paper and the noise of telephone calls and loud voices filled my nose and ears in an instant.

As I heard my shoes clicking on the hard floor I felt a confidence that nothing else could give me.

As I was walking to my office I could see a tall man with his back faced to me while looking at my pictures that I had around my desk.

As I opened the door he turned around and smiled at me.

He was quite handsome, I was tooken aback for a second.

He was wearing black dress up pants with a light blue shirt and a matching blue tie, his hair was pushed back showing off his green eyes.

"Is this your grandma?"

"Uh yeah it is, she's really important to me so I put her picture on my desk for inspiration."

He nodded as a gesture to show me he understood.

He stuck out his hand for me and shook it.

"I'm Jaime Delgado, I've been working as a journalist for more than 7 years, I mostly do political journalism and I'm going to work alongside you, oh and hopefully I'll be replacing you, so fingers crossed.

He smiled again, put my grandma's picture down and started to walk out of my office, while grabbing his suit jacket he put on my office chair.

I stood there in shock like an absolute idiot and all I could really think was:

What the fuck just happened?
