Celebrations had rippled across the realm like a stone dropped into a pool of water, as word of Prince Viserys and Lady Aemma's babe living through a month reached the far corners of the continent. Already whispers of the young Arryn's lost children had spread, as the people worried she would be weak like her mother.

Prince Baelon, the heir to the Iron Throne, had invited the noble houses to journey to King's Landing to see the new princess on her first name day. The festivity went on for three days as the lords and ladies complimented the mother and father on the babe's bright blue eyes and full head of golden curls.

As a child the Princess was slow to learn, refusing to communicate except through words whispered to her mother. When spoken to she would stare into the distance, tilting her head as if listening to something else. At the Old King's command the Princess was hidden from the public's eye, refusing to have the realm believe a Targaryen could be so dimwitted.

Aemma took over her eldest daughter's studies, requesting her lessons take place in the Queen's apartments. Under the mother's watchful gaze Vaella was taught by kind septas, nourishing a love for learning in the young girl.
