Heriot-Watt University was established in 1821 as the Edinburgh School of Arts, the first institute of mechanics in the world. It is the eighth-oldest higher education institution in the UK. Awards from Heriot Watt University

£10 million will be used for fee scholarships, with £3 million going to students in the rest of the UK.

£1.5 million will be used to fund maintenance (living expense) bursaries for RUK students.

Scholarships and bursaries for domestic, EU, and international students will be funded with £7.5 million.

In addition to the scholarships for international students, the university also provides Scottish students with a number of bursaries and scholarships. International students can get advice and support from Heriot-Watt University's International Students Advice Office. They can help with practical advice on a variety of topics, including opening a UK bank account, driving in the country, submitting a police renewal application for a visa, making local travel arrangements, learning about the Edinburgh embassy and consulate, and much more. The International Student Guide also offers helpful information prior to departure. The International Student Advice Office at Heriot-Watt also provides airport pickups at the start of each term, along with a number of welcome and orientation activities.

Students have access to a range of NHS medical and dental facilities. All students have access to counselling through the student health team. Accommodations for Living

The Heriot-Watt University's housing service assigns students to specific on-campus locations and, if necessary, helps them find off-campus housing. Over 1,600 spaces, including shared rooms and bathrooms with showers, are available on the Edinburgh Campus. There are 200 self-catered rooms and apartments on the Scottish Borders Campus, and Heriot-Watt University also rents off-campus and city centre apartments.

The Heriot-Watt University ensures that all first-year students will receive an offer of housing, either on or off campus. Accommodation options include self-catering apartments or rooms with broadband, Wi-Fi, a shared kitchen, and a common lounge.

The Scottish Borders and Heriot-Edinburgh Watt campuses are easily accessible by car. Scotland's capital city, Edinburgh, has established domestic and international travel connections.

Edinburgh Airport, with frequent direct flights to cities like London (just an hour away), Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Brussels, Zurich, and New York, is only a five-minute drive from Edinburgh Campus.

The city is covered in a network of on- and off-road bike routes, including one that connects the campus and the city centre. Buses also depart from the university for the city. The two main train stations in Edinburgh have connections to England and Scotland that take about 4.5 hours to get to London.

Location

Six campuses make up Heriot-Watt: the main campus in Edinburgh, the Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels, the Dubai Campus in Dubai Academic City, the Orkney Campus in Stromness in the far north of Scotland, a new campus in Putrajaya, Malaysia, for MBA students, and an affiliation with West London College. The main campus is one of the most modern in the United Kingdom, and it is situated just outside of Edinburgh.

Heriot-Watt University's campuses in Edinburgh and the Scottish Borders both have easy access to public transportation. Edinburgh has excellent domestic and international transportation connectivity as the capital of Scotland. One hour's drive south of Edinburgh, in the charming market town of Galashiels, is where you can find the Scottish Borders Campus.
