8MONTHS BEFORE THE 10th ANNUAL HUNGER GAMES

"Good morning." I greeted as I walked into my kitchen. Today was a normal day, I had no school and I had plans to see my boyfriend. "Good Morning Erica." My mother replied. My parents were capital favorites but also extremely controversial for many reasons, from the 10 year age gap to an almost teenage pregnancy. It was everywhere. "Where are you off to?" My father asked as he drank from a white cup of coffee. "I'm gonna go see Coriolanus." I answered, fixing my hair in a mirror between the wall.

My mom smiled. "I can't believe you're still with that boy, you really need to consider moving on sweetheart." My mother spoke clearly. I rolled my eyes hearing her response. "Mom, I love Coriolanus, and he loves me. Besides we are graduating soon, -and you know he might ask." I smiled as I imagined him asking. I could definitely imagine myself getting married to him in the upcoming future. And besides, everyone in the capital was getting married young, it would only make sense.

"I doubt it, I strongly believe that the Snows are broke as hell right now, that boy wouldn't be able to support you Erica." The truth was that Coriolanus family was broke after the war but only a few knew. "Which is why he's studying to make an amazing career, no one cares where you start but where you finish at." I replied as I put a light red lipstick on. "But if you want him to propose soon, he can't get educated that quickly." My mother spoke. "I don't want him to propose soon, he can take his time but I feel like he will." I spoke smiling. "Erica, I would really like you to consider another man. You've only had one boyfriend your whole life and I don't like that you're willing to stick with him." My mother continued.

"Which is why, your father has been talking with his co-worker's and we really want you to consider getting married to one of their sons. It could work really well for us and maybe even for you." My mother continued. "I'm fine Mom, but thanks." I answered as I gave my mom a kiss on the cheek. "Well I'm off, see you both later!"I shouted, walking out of the Smoronada apartment.

That was so dumb, I wouldn't marry a man just because it provides my father father an alliance. It's not like he's the one marrying him, it's me. I'm gonna have to be the one who has his kids, who has to cook and who has to tend to his every need, not my father.

After a few minutes, I arrived at the academy garden. It was a beautiful green garden located behind academy grounds. It was open to any student and was normally the place where students would go to study and have picnics in. I walked to me and Coriolanus's favorite spot. The corner with two swings behind the biggest tree.

I approached it, spotting Coriolanus who was playing with the bark on the tree. "Helloo." I greeted as Coriolanus looked up at me. He had his golden blond curls with a white button up and black pants. "Hello Erica, how are you?" He asked as he stood up from the swing to greet me. "Great, what about you?"I  asked sitting on the swing opposite him. "As well." He replied.

"I wanted to speak to you about something." Coriolanus spoke. The moment had arrived, they were in their corner, he looked handsome, the weather was perfect. "You know how we are graduating soon?" Coriolanus asked as I nodded. I was right, he was gonna propose because graduation away near. "Well, with the plinth prize and everything coming up, I was thinking that maybe we should stop being together." My heart dropped.

Did I hear those words correctly? Was her boyfriend of 3 years breaking up with her? The same guy I thought was gonna propose to me. "Why?"I  asked immediately.

"If I want to win the prize I really need to focus on my academics, and being with you doesn't benefit me. Maybe in the future but right now I don't have time for you." He spoke clearly. I looked around. Was anyone hearing this? Why was he doing this, I couldn't believe it.

"Are you being serious?" I asked, raising my eyebrows as I stared at his blue eyes. "I'm sorry Erica, it's just i really need to focus and you're a big distraction." He replied. "Coriolanus you know very well that I could you get tuition for university." I spoke as he scuffed. "Your parents heavily dislike me Erica." He spoke. "You're acting like I haven't stolen money for you before." I replied. "I didn't ask you to." He spoke.

"So you're willing to throw us away, after these years we've spent together?" I asked. My eyes starting to water but being blocked by the fact that I had to come home normally. "I'm not throwing them away, who knows? Maybe in a few years, but right now no. I don't have time for this." He spoke as I nodded. "Great." I whispered.

"Well. I need to go finish my assignments, see you soon." Coriolanus excused himself. Before he walked away. He planted a small kiss on my cheek as I looked at the ground. He left, leaving me in the garden by myself as I sat in the swing. I wanted to cry but I knew that I shouldn't. My parents would tell me that they were all right along if they see how hurt I am, and I don't wanna give Coriolanus the points that he made me cry by breaking up with me. He didn't even walk me back to my apartment. He really did not wanna be with me again.
