Chapter 3

As soon as she entered the room all eyes fell on her, anxiety creeping back in as 5 pairs of eyes were on her, Miss Raven was the first to speak

"Miss foster you're right on time, please join us" she offered from the end of the table, signaling to the unoccupied chair next to Veronica, Elizabeth went to sit down, keeping her head low as if trying not to attract attention to herself, which was nearly impossible, it wasn't that she felt threatened or anything of the sorts, on the contrary, she didn't exactly felt safe completely, but she felt safer than she ever did at her village, although she didn't like all eyes being on her

She looked around, Veronica was sitting on the right to Elizabeth, Sebastian was sitting across from her, next to Heather, And miss Raven was at the head of the table closest to Veronica and heather

Elizabeth unintentionally made eye contact with Sebastian, who smiled at her in a friendly manner, Elizabeth returned the gesture, no longer than a few seconds later, Elizabeth heard a door opening

"Mr O'Connor, I'm glad you decided to join us, have you met miss foster yet?" Miss Raven greeted, a little less enthusiastic than when she greeted Elizabeth, Everyone's turned to the door, Elizabeth saw a tall boy with dark curly hair and dark brown eyes, he was wearing a grey sweater and brown pants, they unintentionally made eye contact, Elizabeth noticed a hint of annoyance in his face and went to sit down, Elizabeth looked a Veronica in confusion, she failed to see why the boy seemed so upset

"Enoch, this is Elizabeth" Veronica tried introducing, but Enoch just spared her a glance and then scoffed looking away

"Alright everyone, let's eat" Miss Raven announced and Everything began eating their meals, Elizabeth reached out it grab the fork next to her plate

What she didn't expect was the burning sensation coming from her hand, she immediately pull her hand away with a quiet gasp, Everyone else at the table looked up from their food, alarmed by the quiet sizzling noice and the sight of Elizabeth holding her hand

"Is everything ok?" Sebastian asked, Enoch raised and eyebrow in curiosity, Elizabeth face was red with embarrassment, she completely forgot about her sensitivity to iron and she didn't want to burden them with her issue

"I am sorry" Elizabeth apologize "I forgot to mention this but I am adverse to iron due to the fact that it burns my skin... I do not know why that happens" she explained nervously, her voice died down towards the end, she looked down to her hands trying to hide her shame

"Oh well that's not a problem at all" Miss Raven reassured, she looked at heather "heather if you don't mind"

Heather nodded, Veronica passed the cutlery to heather, she grabbed the fork and knife, one in each hand, Heather used her peculiarity to change the material of the objects to a different medal, she handed them back to Veronica, who offered to Elizabeth, she hesitated a little before taking the cutlery once she confirmed there were no harm, she smiled softly and said a quiet thank you and everyone went on with her meals, it was chucked with rice and various vegetables cut up into it, Everyone else had the same meal except for Veronica who didn't have chicken, Elizabeth took a bite out of her food, it was probably the best meal she'd ever tasted, much better than the food at the village

"How do you like it here miss foster? I hope you've enjoyed your time here so far" The older woman asked Elizabeth, she looked at her caught a little of guard

"Oh I have!" She began quickly, feeling the need to show her gratitude "this house is really lovely and everyone is so nice" she complemented

"Are you going to live here?" Heather asked curiously, Elizabeth kept quiet while thinking of her response, but Miss Raven spoke before before Elizabeth could come up with an answer

"Please heather don't pressure our guest" Miss raven said and Elizabeth immediately felt bad

"Oh I do not mind" Elizabeth tried reassuring

"I think you should stay" Sebastian spoke up "we can all assure you are perfectly safe here and no offense but i doubt you have anywhere else you could go" he explained and Elizabeth though about it

"That's what you say" Enoch speaks up making everyone turn towards him in surprise

"Excuse me?" Sebastian asked with a laugh

"I mean I wouldn't call this place "perfectly safe" considering there's a reason we stay in hiding" he pointed out, Elizabeth furrowed her eyebrows in confusion

"We remain hidden because the not everyone comprehends what we can do, this place is to protect us" Miss Raven explained casually

"Yes but that's not the only reason right?" Enoch began and turned towards Elizabeth "surely they've told you about the other dangers that lurk around" he said and Elizabeth's confused enhanced, Enoch noticed that on her expression

"Oh? they haven't told you?" He asked

"He's trying to scare you Elizabeth, don't listen to him" Heather tried to warn Elizabeth but Enoch continued

"Not at all" he began turning to Heather "I think out guest should know everything before she makes a decision, don't you think?" He said looking around at the table

"Enoch that is not a conversation to have at the dinner table" Miss Raven explained

"Why not? Wouldn't you like to know the other reason we are in hiding?" He asked Elizabeth

"Enoch that's enough" Veronica warned, her tone was still calm but Elizabeth could tell that she es getting a little irritated

"Come on, wouldn't you like to now why we live in fear? why we-"

"That's enough!" Miss Raven exclaimed, making everyone, even Enoch jump in their seats, Elizabeth flinched a little, looking down to her hands, the room went quiet for a few seconds before Miss Raven cleared her throat

"I apologize for my outburst but this is not the topic fitting for now" she apologized "Enoch that's enough out of you, Elizabeth I apologize for his behavior, if you don't mind I would like to speak to you after dinner to clear everything up" she said to Elizabeth, who nodded

"Of course" she replied with a small smile

"Alright, carry on with your meals everyone" Miss Raven announced, everyone continued their meals in silence, Elizabeth's eyes shifted to Enoch almost involuntary, he ate his food calmly but she noticed a hint of anger in his face, he looked up and the two kids made eye contact for one second before Elizabeth looked away and continued eating her food
