A Hole, where my Heart was..

A lot had changed in the past few days.

For starters, Sunny had moved away.

Basil lay down in the cool shadow of a tree, in what once was a secret hiding spot for him and his friends. The lake glittered brightly as the afternoon sun shone, and the air blazed with heat.

He hadn't seen any of his friends since...that day. Honestly? It was understandable.

He hadn't felt this level-headed since- who knew- years?? The truth being out now had surprisingly given him some long-needed relief.

Maybe the weight of the truth really did affect his mental state. He still wasn't okay, but at least he didn't see that awful black mass of eyes and tendrils now.

He'd only gotten discharged that late morning. No one had been there to greet him back home, though Polly had made him a really good lunch. He almost wished he could have it again.

It hasn't been this quiet for a long time..

He'd also thrown away the garden shears used for...that. And gardening reminded him a lot of what had happened that day. He wasn't going to be tending plants for a while now.

And nature photography wasn't his thing. He didn't really have anyone to take photos with now.

I wonder how Sunny is doing.

A few days ago, Basil was an emotional mess, knowing Sunny was back after four long years. Something about knowing he was the only one he could talk to about something gave him false hope and relief that everything would be resolved at last. It didn't matter how badly Aubrey or the others treated him, at least he wouldn't be alone after all.

Right?

He'd had a panic attack after learning Sunny was moving away. Something had also become visible, and it made horrible sounds, even trying to grab him at times. It had scared him so, so much.

Then there was when Sunny had tried to check on him.

And how did Basil repay him?

Gouged his whole eye out.

Of course, he was delusional at the moment, and he couldn't accept the fact Sunny was moving away, not right after he'd just lost his grandmother. All he saw was Something, raised his shears and-

Sunny should've just left him for what he'd done. He should've been angry- no- he should've been afraid of him by now. He didn't understand why Sunny had forgiven him so easily. Basil hated himself for what he had done to his best friend.

Basil turned sideways towards the grass and groaned.

He shouldn't think about Sunny and his eye, no no, be positive Basil! You got this!

He always saw Something in the corner of his eye whenever he started breaking down..

Would he see it now?

He was terrified of seeing it again after the last time what happened, so he tried to keep himself away from negative thoughts.

Which is exactly what he sucked at.

He closed his eyes, and tried to blank his mind.

"Basil?"

Hmm? Already dreaming? Basil was still conscious though.

"Basil!"

Nope, that was real-life. He opened his eyes quickly, blinking it a few times.

"H-Huh??"
