Rays of sunlight seemed to peek from behind the city building, coating them in a golden hue. There wasn't enough time to appreciate the view before the car speedily turned right into the highway on course to the outskirts of the city.
" Isn't this exciting or what?" Mom says.
Turning my view away from the window, I direct my attention to my Mom. From the rear view mirror I could see a grin stretch across her face and the twinkle lighten in her eyes. It's been 2 months since we had seen Dad. I can still remember the elation we all felt when my father's life long dreams had come true in the form of a delivered envelope.
You see, my Dad is a Geneticist - specializing in Clinical Molecular Genetics. To sum it up - he dealt with DNA mutations. He had spent years perfecting his thesis on the relationship and boundaries between DNA mutation and DNA modification with matters of ethics incorporated as well. His work had been recognized by one of leading corporations in scientific discovery and resource reintegration, and he had been offered a position on their scientific team to be in charge of their Genetics Department.
The down-side to this opportunity ,however, was that he had to permanently reside on the faculty premises of their corporation due to the sensitive and confidential data he would be working with. Although we would miss him, he deserved this great opportunity and so we were granted permission to visit form once in every one to two months - depending on their schedule.
Sure I was a little effy about this protocol but the enthusiasm my parent exhibited was enough to wash my doubts away. Again the voice of Mom brings me out of my thoughts.
"oh look we're here!"
Turning back to my window, my eyes quickly filter to the familiar oranges and greys of the corporation's logo.
The car stops in front of their heavily fortified visitor's entrance. A security guard comes to out of their post with a clip -board to greet us. His physique is big and imposing while covered in uniform very similar to ones of the military. His stride is firm and swift as he arrives at my Mom's window.
"Mrs Tiffany Brown" The guard inquires with a stony facial expression.
'Damn, he most definitely did not come to play'
"Yes that's me! I do believe were scheduled for 5pm but we came a little early, I hope that's not a problem." my mother's head tilts in concern as she responds. Her gentle nature and genuine enthusiasm seems to influence the guard's mood.
Warmth seems to seep through the cracks of he's stony expressions.
"No problem ma'am. We're happy to see family visits.....
......welcome to the RDA corporation !"
