"How do you even have that many apps? Doesn't that thing only have like 34 megabytes of storage?"
"No, that's Kai's tablet. I built this thing from scratch, dude. With state-of-the-art technology, purchased courtesy of our super-rich grandpa. I get to decide how much storage it has. And how many cool things it can do. It's what I do, now stop being distracting by questioning my genius." He scrolled for another second, "Ah, found it. I really need to organize this thing better." He turned to me, "Lemme see your arm."
"I thought this was about Kai." I definitely was not afraid of what he would possibly do to my arm. Not at all. Okay, maybe I was. Shut up.
"It is. Now give me your arm."
"Fine." I held it out to him, he scanned over it for a minute, then turned to Kai, I was definitely not secretly relieved. "Your turn, sis." She held her arm out, he scanned it then studied the screen for a minute.
"Okay, I think I see what's happening here." He showed us the screen, there were two side by side images of what looked like cells on it. One side showed the cells on a five second loop, splitting and splitting, over and over, constantly. The other showed a five second loop of the same. But like it was in super slow motion. Where the first one had literally every cell splitting like three times a second, the second had maybe three cells split in the whole loop.
"Actually... Out of curiosity..." He scanned his own arm, comparing the sample to mine and Kai's. After another moment, he let out a pleased, "Ooo... Interesting..."
"What is that?" Kai asked.
"Our cell regeneration processes. It's another app I made. See, you scan a sample using infrared light from a secondary camera sensor and it shows the rate of cell production, you can also scan and store multiple samples and compare them to each other. But, that's just an add-on, for funsies. The actual function of the app is to watch cells splitting as it happens, so you can spot the formation of cancer cells as early as possible, allowing treatments or removals to be performed as early as physically possible, hopefully preventing tumors, and- eventually- freeing the human race from the fear of cancer."
"Okay, I'm sure that all made sense in Irwin-Speak, but can you explain what it has to do with this? And in English this time, please." Irwin looked at me and sighed.
"Okay, these" he pointed to the fast-splitting cells, "are your cells, Jason. They're in a constant state of production and regeneration. And these," he pointed to the slow-splitting ones, "are Kaili's cells. They split at a normal, human rate. Jason, because your cells split continuously, your injuries heal faster. Kaili's cells split normally, so she heals at a normal rate. And, if you look at mine, I'm somewhere in the middle. Which means I can heal, too, but not nearly as efficiently as Jace can. And, yes, I did just science our cool magical powers. You're welcome."
"So, wait, I don't have super healing?"
"Sorry, sis."
"But, I just sideswiped a truck!"
"I don't see what that has to do with anything."
"I mean, not that I didn't wanna save you, Jace, but I only did it because I assumed super speed came with super healing!"
"Well, we saved Jace, so I think a couple bruises are worth it. Don't be such a pansy about it. Also, never just assume you have super healing! Dumbass."
"Didn't you guys literally assume I had super healing?" I pointed out. Win shrugged,
"That's different. There was prior evidence. Besides, it's not like we planned for a Fae-Freak to throat-stab you."
