Chapter 4 - Call The Police..Someone Abducted My Body!

Start from the beginning

This look was quite a revamp from my normal, what I liked to call lazy-can’t-be-bothered-chic-a-la-mode look.  Normally jeans, cool t-shirts and converses worked fine for me. But I had to put it to them, I looked alright I guess. The dress seemed to suit alright and the jacket gave it that more edgy laid back look.

They had of course insisted on doing my hair and makeup as well – heedless of my constant protests. Even with stubbornness on my side, they had triple the amount of determination and together they were quite, scratch that, extremely intimating. I really wasn't so sure on why they were going to so much trouble.  I was only meeting a new family for the first time, a family I’d have to live with for weeks, possibly months of end. No big deal, right?

Yeah, I guess a good first impression wouldn't hurt.

My reaction to my new face, well to say the least, I was completely and utterly shocked. I didn't quite believe it was me - I even started to prod and poke my face just to check it was really my skin and they hadn’t really secretly knocked me out and stole some poor girls face and  gone through intense surgery and bada bing bada boom, they’d gotten me! But after pulling faces at myself for a good few minutes and the reflection copied my actions exactly- you know, just for confirmation - I had finally giving in that it was in face me.

Being someone who usually didn’t bother with makeup and usually just left their hair, I was shocked to see what a bit of mascara and heat curlers could do. They had made my pale skin look really soft and sort of transparent; my deep blue denim eyes looked rather large and kind of enchanting, surrounded by a mass of long eyelashes. Even my almost ebony hair which usually just hung straight down was shining and in loose waves.

I turned to my friends and my quirky mum who were all waiting patiently with eager eyes, probably wanted to hear my verdict. My thoughts were confirmed when Kate ventured, “Sooo..what do you think?”

I think I'm going to have some fun with this.

“Well..” I started innocently, “WHERE’D YOU PUT HER?” I snapped, switched my glance back and forth between them. They all shared the same blank gawking, wide-eyed expression, looking like baby animals waiting to be fed at the zoo. They were all so clueless it was comical.

“Don’t act dumb with me, you’ve clearly abducted a poor girl, I bet she was defenceless!” I was glaring intently between them. I could practically see the light bulb’s flicker on in all of their heads as they seemed to grasp what I was getting at.

“Sky, don’t be silly, course we didn..”  I cut of Paige mid sentence.

“I don’t want to hear your petty little excuses; you’ll have plenty of people to tell them to…like the police for one! What did you do? Call up your little alien friends to abduct her and drop her to your secret layer!?” I half screeched.

They were genuinely starting to getting worried now. Glancing to each other, checking it wasn’t just them that thought I’d totally lost it. “I think I’ll have to just go do the honest thing and inform the police.  Better do it now, sooner the better. You all could be out of the country by tomorrow...” during my little rant, I had picked up the phone and began to dial the number for the police.  Just before I could press call, they all shot up, dashed towards me at lightning speed, and tried to grab the phone.

They were all hysteric! Shirking things like, “DON’T YOU EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!”, “PUT THAT PHONE DOWN RIGHT NOW!" and “GIVE ME THAT THING, WOMAN!”

The whole scene was ridiculously hilarious. I couldn't keep up the charade any longer; I dropped to the ground in stitches, holding my side, and swiping at stray tears that leaked out. Oh, I was too good. Their faces - pure gold! My Oscars in the mail. Once I was able to force myself into a sitting position on the floor, I glanced up at my friends and my mum who were sending daggers my way. I guess they realised I was pranking them for my own personal entertainment. I wonder what gave it away?
