Maria sat down at lunch alone, like always. she didn't mind it, it was peaceful and she got distance from others. she kicked her legs and wrote in her journal then someone walked to her "h-hey do you wanna be uhm... friends?" a little girl asked her, Maria felt confused she always felt like the weird one, different or even a outcast "sure! my names Maria! whats yours?" she closed her book and looked at the girl "my name is Bree.. its nice to meet you Maria" two boys a few tables behind were laughing but Maria ignored, it was hard for Bree to ignore knowing what she was doing "so do you uh.. wanna sit with us? we can probably make room" Bree was being kindhearted like she always was "no thanks, i appreciate your offer though!" Maria wanted to stay distant, last time she tried to make friends with someone it ended terribly "oh.. well okay" Bree walked back to the table with the two boys who then broke down laughing "guys its not funny she seemed really lonely.. okay?" Bree was probably the only person in the school who wanted to actually be friends with Maria "Y-YOU ACTUALLY DID IT" the boys broke down into more and more laughter, Maria looked over at them knowing it was about her, she put in earbuds and flushed her worries away.
Maria sat at her desk with a little light on then heard a knock on the door "come in!" Maria always expected her mom with her dinner but it was someone else "Maria, dear, someone is here for you" her mother let the same girl from earlier in "B-Bree?" Maria was confused, they laughed at her earlier why would she come back? "H-Hey Maria.. i was wondering if you would like to hang out..?" Bree walked up to Marias desk and tried to peak at her journal but Maria closed it quickly "why do you want to be my friend when your friends laugh at me all the time?" Maria felt like she only needed her mother and father in her life "because.. it was originally a dare.. but i felt really bad for you just seeing you alone all the time" Bree couldn't think of anything else to say. Maria sat in silence, no one ever was really nice to her, maybe Bree was the one "alright then.. if you really want to be my friend, you promise to not backstab me?" Maria looked at Bree very seriously "i promise..." Bree held out her pinky "pinky promise." Maria locked her pinky onto Brees, Maria hoped she was the one. "so.. what should we do?" Bree looked around Marias room, it looks very outdoorsy "hmm.. oh! i can tell you all about these monsters i see!" Maria felt excited to finally talk to someone about her journal "monsters? monsters aren't real silly" Bree felt interested but knew it was probably fake "not true! they are real! i even have this!" Maria opened her drawer and grabbed a tooth the size of her palm "is that real?!" Bree backed up from it "hell yeah it is! i got it like saturday from chestnut park!" - "that place with those spooky signs?!" - "yeah!" Bree looked at how fearless Maria must've been, she probably had loads of other stuff with her "do you have anything else?" Bree looked over Marias shoulder "hmm.. i have this scar?" she showed Bree a big scar on the side of her stomach "are you ok?" Bree looked at it closer "yeah it hurt for a moment but im alright now.. nothing my mom couldn't fix!" Maria shared her stories with Bree, it was amazing! she felt so happy sharing woahs and laughs with her new best friend. "oh man, its late! i gotta get going now, it was fun hanging out with you Maria!" Bree hugged Maria "can we do this again sometime soon?" - "of course we can! here" Bree wrote her number on a piece of paper for Maria then gave her a "call me" gesture. Maria giggled then made a "ok" gesture. when Bree left Maria thought of her all night, it was hard to sleep when you made a new best friend. she couldn't resist and texted Brees number

B: yeah i get that a lot, but why'd you text so late?
M: i was wondering if you would like to sit with me tomorrow?
B: hmm, maybe ill think about it
M: okay, take your time with it and goodnight!

around the same time yesterday, Maria sat down and did the same except she waited almost all of lunch for Bree "over here!" Maria put her arms up and yelled for Bree, she saw her and ran over to her "hey Maria~" Bree felt excited to talk to someone new "hey Bree, how are you?" - "just usual, kinda bored" the same two boys from yesterday sat next to Bree at Marias table "Bree what are you doing here with.. her?" one of the boys looked at Bree confused "because Maria is one of my new friends, you should eat lunch with us!" Bree looked at Maria excited "if thats okay with her" Maria thought for a moment "i guess.. i don't see why not" the two boys whispered to each other "ahem.. are you not going to introduce yourselves?" Bree nudged one of their arms "yeah... right... my names Logan" - "my name is Eli, im supposing yours is smudgey? like jeez you're filthy" the two broke into laughter, Maria looked down and fought her tears "Eli! that wasn't funny!" Bree nudged his arm again "y-yeah i guess you can call me smudgey..." Maria felt a tear roll down her cheek "awe, come on don't cry i was just joking" yeah, just joking like everyone else "Eli please don't be a bully-" Bree was quickly cut off by Logan "well he's not wrong she does look a little.. dirty. no offense of course" it felt terrible, these type of people were the reason why Maria liked being alone. After lunch towards the end of the day Bree followed Maria home. before Maria walked inside Bree grabbed her shoulder "hey.. uhm.. im really sorry for earlier" - "its fine, it isn't your fault" they stood in silence for a moment "maybe we can go to my house? i can show you my room! maybe you can stay the night!" Bree jumped up and down with excitement. Maria felt happier again "sure! let me ask my mom!" Maria ran inside and talked with her mom for a moment then ran back out "she said yes!" - "lets go go go then!" Maria and Bree ran all the way down to Brees house, when they finally got there they ran to Brees room "im home mom! ill be in my room!" Maria halted right at the doorway and looked in amazement "i love your room! and whats that thing?" - "oh thats my wii, we can play it some day!" Maria looked around her room, it looked cool even if she didn't understand video games "Bree.. you promise to never make fun of me right?" Bree got closer to Maria "i will never, ever make fun of you. we are best friends forever"
