The sound of screaming and fire roaring toward the heavens was all that was heard the night of Samhain (Sah-ween)
Càttiauna, fast asleep in her bed of hay, was abruptly woken by a commotion from outside the barn she had always snuck inside for shelter. Among the yelling was a heat that she couldn't figure the source. Càttiauna carefully got to her feet in a crouch, and crawled to the latter gazing down from her perch. "Nothing.." she thought to herself. She slowly made her way down to the ground and took cautious steps to the horse opening. As she made her way through, the loudness grew intensely.
Finally she was out and found herself surrounded by death. Bodies, drained of blood, cottages burning. Men ushering woman and children to safety in oxen led, wooden long carriages that them and their families, belongings had entered in. Càttiauna stood in the archway of the barn's door stunned. Her bare feet glued to the cold soil. Seconds past and her breathing shuttered, even though she was clueless she knew she had to break for it. To her immediate left, was a straight shot to the woods. One foot after another she crept, body glued to the paint of the barn, she made her way to the corner support beam. The farthest she could go before being unprotected by the shadow of it. One..two.. Càttiauna booked for it as fast as her legs could take her. She counted in her head the seconds it took her to make it to the safety of the trees.
Relieved, "I made it!" She huffed under her breath. She continued to walk, it was dark but the moon pooling through the trees was just enough to get by. The rags she wore were nothing to shield her from the cold. Single snowflakes fell from the clouds above, desperate to find some sort of shelter she continued on. Hours passed, her pale skin was icy to the touch, her vision had began to blur. Her feet and body ached from the endless walking. Càttiauna's ears began to ring, her head nodded up and down in dizziness and before she knew it she was on the ground. Motionless she laid, the leaves and her thin ragged dress was the only barrier from her and the icy earth.
"Chishhmm.. heeo.. waaup", Càttiaunas eyes fluttered open, someone was hovering above her. "Are you alive? Hello?" The feminine voice had felt muffled. She lifted her hands and rubbed her eyes. "Oh goodie! Your not dead just yet!" The woman appeared cheerful. Càttiauna managed to utter, "W-who..?". The woman kneeled and wrapped her arms under her, gripped tightly, and lifted her, pulling her a short distance to sit her up against a tree. "What is your name, innocence?". "My name..? My name is Càttiauna Van Blair..Who are you?". The woman pivoted and took a few small steps in the opposite direction, crossing her arms. "My name will mean nothing to you but I suppose its only fair. I am Ada Vladi, when you are ready, you will find me in the north." Ada remained where she stood but turned her head in Càttiauna's direction. " I have lived a long time, I have killed many, cared for no soul. Yet.. for once I think I feel something. I pity your miserable life, you have lived in filth and pain since the day the pious hung your makers by their necks." Ada turned to face her. "Ms. Van Blair, I want to offer you a gift but you shall choose it. If I walk away you will die slowly, you are already skin and bones. You will surly not survive the night so I offer you a quick death, I will feast from your arteries and drain them of your life force. Or, you shall feast of mine and vise versa. I will give you life eternal." The red haired woman watched Càttiauna as she laid. "I want to live.. spare me" Càttiauna said weakly. Ada chuckled "You have made your choice. In your new life you will suffer, hungry and cold. Find your fill by blood.". "What do you mea-", Càttiauna was intrupted by excruciating pain, the woman was on top of her feeding from her neck. She felt warmness ooze. Ada sat back and moaned, straddling Càttiauna. Ada bit down on her wrist and tore her skin with her teeth. As her blood dripped down, Ada stood and sat next to her, laying Càttiauna on her lap cradling her. Ada lifted her wrist to Càttiauna's mouth, "feed.". As Ada's blood dripped onto her lips she flinched and locked eyes with her. Ada nodded and she began to suckle.
"Good girl." Ada grinned. She began to hum a soft melody "Daisy daisy give me your answer do, I felt crazy all for the love of you.".. Her song trailed off, Càttiauna had drank and fell unconscious. Ada moved her arm from Càttiauna's mouth and underneath her other side and pulled her close. Her head rocked slowly onto Ada's shoulder, her hair fell over her eyes. Ada whispered "Hush now my dear, rest with me as long as you need. Your old life has come to an end and you deserve a new name. How about just Blair! Yes that definitely suits you dear."
