It had been about a month and a half after Kaylee and Ashton met and they had become great friends. They talked everyday after school over chat and kiked almost every night. One night, Kaylee asked if Ashton wanted to play the random question game, (the random question game was a game that had been going around school for quite some time now; some games could get very scandalous) and he agreed to play.
You: do you wanna talk on the phone instead of over kik? its easier lol
Ashton: sure I'll call you
It was about eleven thirty now and Kaylee waited anxiously for the ringtone on her out-dated, scratched-up, qwerty keyboard cellphone. As soon as he had dialed Kaylee snatched up the phone of her bed and answered.
"Hey," Kaylee said sleepily, in order to give the impression that she was not totally awake and hyper.
"Hey, so you want to play the random question game?" Ashton replied with the tone of a curious child peeking inside the wide window of an ice cream truck.
"Sure!" Kaylee exclaimed, "but i have to shut my door real quick." She couldn't comprehend the consequences she would receive if her parents heard her - on the phone with a boy - at this hour. She slipped out of bed and put on her glasses, which she would choose her contacts over on any day. She tip-toed to the door and slowly turned the handle, trying not to let it creak when she pushed it closed. She leaped back into bed, door shut and locked.
"Okay I'm back. You can start."
"M'kay," Ashton said, "how personal can it be?"
"I will most likely answer anything," Kaylee said hesitantly.
"Okay um...what's your favorite class?"
"Art," Kaylee said in an instant, "it's basically my passion, I do it every second that I have free time basically." Ashton chuckled.
Ashton took a deep breath, "Okay, your turn." Kaylee had many questions racing across her mind, but she had to pick just one.
"Sorry about this," Kaylee apologized for no reason in particular, "but my question is, on a scale of one to ten, how much do you like Regina?"
Silence filled the room for a few seconds.
"Seven," Ashton replied. Seven!? But, Kaylee thought to herself, I didn't know it was only a seven. It was Ashton's turn...
"Do you like anyone?"
Oh my word.
"Um," Kaylee muttered, "Not really," She lied. She had defiantly developed feelings for Ashton. His voice was so smooth and every time she haw him in the hallway, she just about threw up. At first she didn't know, but just by that one question, she knew how she felt - maybe even how he felt...
"Okay I need to confess something." Kaylee let Ashton tell her his confession as she internalized every word.
"I wanted to tell you that I like you. I mean, just a little, like, not a lot. But I like you..."
"I..." Kaylee could barely get herself to say it, "I like you too."
Ashton let out a sort of giggle and Kaylee acknowledged it with a giggle of her own. From that moment on Kaylee knew things would be different between her, Ashton, and Regina. She thought that this time, the "sisters before misters" rule wouldn't come into play.
