BEAMS OF SUNLIGHT PEERED IN THROUGH THE BLINDS,

illuminating the tanned, slightly freckled face of the man lying beside her. The corner of his closed eyes crinkled as he attempted to cling to sleep as light snores escaped his lips.

A smile tugged at Marisol's lips as she admired her resting husband. Slightly jealous of how relaxed he looked and how easy deep sleep seemed to come for him (something Marisol had not had the joy of experiencing in months). However, the arm that he had protectively and securely draped over her ever-growing bump never faltered.

The rollercoaster of emotions, all credit to the pregnancy hormones that were wreaking havoc on her body and mind, responsible for the tears that now gathered at Marisol's waterline over the small gesture. The Miller woman torn between crying and jumping her husband's bones, a dilemma that arose more and more as of late.

Marisol eventually settling on threading her fingers through the short, dark colored strands of Tommy's hair, earning a small "hmm" from him as he affectionately caressed her stomach.

"Can feel you staring." he spoke, voice hoarse and full of sleep.

"Me? I would never. I'm just admiring my husband's pretty face." Marisol emphasized the second to last word as the fingers that were once lost in Tommy's hair, now delicately brushed his cheek.

A small chuckle leaving her shortly after as she felt the rush of heat that promptly rose to Tommys face as his eyes shot open. The corners of his mouth turning upward as he attempted to conceal his visible reaction to his wife's adoring words. "God willing, our baby takes after their mama."

"I just hope she has her daddies smile." Marisol countered as she lovingly stroked Tommy's heavy-eyed face.

Though all drowsiness seemed to quickly dissipate as the raven-haired man propped himself up on his elbows and rapidly turned his head to Marisol. A sad gleam apparent in his eyes as he gazed at her with an almost betrayed look. One that caused her to furrow her brows in confusion and worry until he glumly spoke, "Thought we wanted it to be a surprise."

He thought she found out the baby's gender without him. Marisol's felt her stomach drop at the realization; hurt that he would even think for a second she made such a vital decision without him. Her heightened emotions yearned to turn the misunderstanding into an argument, but the distressed expression that persisted on Tommy's face did more than persuade her to let it be.
