"no, he's single." penelope explained.

"but.. they've been flirting this entire time?" brian questioned.

"yeah, alex is my husband. we're in love." cherry spoke sarcastically.

"okay, so you are dating?" brian asked, holding his pen.

"no."

"what?"

"no! they are just joking. probably." lydia shrugged.

"this is syd, my syd-nificant other!" elena led the man to syd. "and they are non-binary."

"my pronouns are they and them." syd explained.

"oh, they taught us this! it's nice to meet.. you?" brian attempted.

syd nodded.

"anyways, we're together now, but next year i'll be at yale, if i get in. i'll get in." elena began.

"and i'll get in at one of her safety schools!" syd grinned.

"but we decided to break up before we go to college so we're not one of those couples that thinks their first relationship is gonna be their last."

"we don't wanna be those people."

"i get it, i get it. right now, i don't wanna be me." brian frowned.

"me and alex are more than just friends. put that down." cherry glanced at the man's clipboard.

"just who else lives here? do you live here?" brian looked down at the girl.

"no, i just sleep here and have all 3 meals here and spend all my time here. but, like, i have a house that i'm supposed to be at." cherry explained.

"okay, so who does live here?" brian stared at his clipboard, confused.

"sadly, me." alex frowned. "i'm alex. i'm 14."

"and papito is single!" lydia smiled.

"not for long." cherry whispered.

"right, right. because he's a child." brian said.

"no. because it is impossible to find a woman who is good enough for him who is not me." lydia said, hugging alex.

"wow!" cherry said.

"you don't want him, it doesn't matter." lydia shrugged it off.

"put down that my grandmother and i are just friends." alex begged.

"okay, so that's everyone, i hope? please?" brian said.

"hey, fam!" schneider burst through the door. "hey, dr. b. hey new guy. wait, new guy? it's movie night, am i being replaced? by an older model?"

"no, i'm from the census." the man explained.

"oh, great. so important for our latinx community to be counted." schneider grinned.

"okay.. so you're latino?" brian asked.

"no." schneider frowned.

"does he live here?" brian glanced at penelope.

"no!" the entire family called out.

"i'll see you guys in 10 years." brian headed for the door. "who am i kidding? in 10 years, president kardashian is gonna do away with all of this."

"been a rough day, brian?" penelope asked.

"sorry, i just have a lot of apartments to hit, and nobody likes the census guy." brian frowned.
