Lo'ak had been more complicated at first, but those failures had been brief. Since Aonung's sister taught him, he learned quickly and on the first try. Although no one said it out loud, everyone knew how the story was going to end. No one, even her mother who had so many opinions about the future of her only daughter, said anything about it. On the contrary, one might say.
That bond between her daughter and the middle child of the Sully clan caused her to become closer to her mother as well. The woman with whom she had the worst approach the day they arrived. Suddenly you could see them talking here and there, as if the peace pact had been achieved thanks to the inevitable future ahead of them.
That led Aonung to spend more time with the older brother. It wasn't something they had planned, the second time they had spoken alone together, it had been the most horrible conversation Aonung could remember ever having. He felt guilty, but he was also hurt by what his father had said to him.
He had basically put into words everything he knew about himself. That he would never be a worthy leader and that all he was good for was hunting. That maybe someday he would get smart enough to leave and not look back. It was that point, of absolute certainty that he was to blame for all his actions that led him to speak to the Sully's older brother the morning after the prank against Lo'ak.
- Is he all, right? - I whispered, keeping my distance. I had seen the older brother standing near the planting areas. Watching his little brother in the distance, swimming with my sister.
- As if you cared. - he replied without looking at me. I looked down and nodded. I didn't say more, but I didn't move either. I deserved this.
Neither of us spoke for a while until he turned and looked at me confused, as if wondering what I was still doing there.
- He'll live, if that's what you're worried about. You can go tell your father that you have already apologized, you don't have to stay here. - Neteyam continued speaking in a harsh voice.
- My father has not told me to come and apologize. - I said, not knowing very well where this desire to explain myself came from. - He only told me not to make a fool of him again, that he prefers me to fly further north and never see me again. - I ended up shrugging my shoulders, still without looking at him.
He didn't say anything and I started to feel worse and worse. This had been a bad idea. Not just coming here, but getting close to them. The Sully's just brought this feeling, of fear and something mixed with sadness. I blinked several times, not realizing I had almost cried in front of a half demon and turned to leave.
- He is fine. He just has a bruised ego. He said he met an animal out there or something, I think it was the sun that affected his head. - He spoke in a relaxed tone, then sat down on the rocks and sighed. - Come back here, come on. - he murmured.
Part of me wanted to tell him to go fuck himself. That I didn't want his pity. But my legs moved before I could think about it. I sat down next to him, about three feet away. My back was still stiff and part of my arm still hurt from yesterday. My father had strong hands, he had shaken me a couple of times and left marks on my arm. I tried to cover them with a cloth, but later I regretted it. If I did that, he would see it as weakness.
- I'm sorry - I said after a while. Realizing that maybe I hadn't said it enough. - I know it was stupid, I was angry and I took it out on him. He didn't deserve it. - I ended up looking over to where he was with my sister.
- I don't know why you keep saying all that to me. You should tell him. I wasn't the one who spent the day in the middle of the sea almost getting eaten to death by a strange animal. - he let out with a snort. I just nodded, knowing he was right.
