Chapter 04 (Part Two)

Start from the beginning

It was getting closer and closer to the eighteenth, Nathan realized with a heavy sigh as he leaned back in his computer chair. He'd been sitting at his desk in his room all day-- not because he had nothing to do, but simply because he didn't feel like doing it.

On the eighteenth he'd be leaving. For four years. And he wouldn't even be a doctor after that. He'd have to go to medical school. For another four years. Or three, if he was lucky.

And then he still wouldn't really be a doctor. Why did it take so long to be a doctor? Honestly?

Thinking about doctors got him interested in Grant. Had he gone to UND? Or did he go somewhere else? He figured Grant was either really smart, or older than he thought, to be a doctor already. Then again, Nathan didn't know how old Grant was to begin with. The thought made him frown, sinking lower into his chair.

If he was becoming a doctor, would he ever have to work with Grant? He was sure he could, if he had to, but that didn't mean he liked the thought.

And where the hell was all this thinking about Grant coming from?

Nathan shook his head to himself, sitting up in his chair and swiveling around as he heard a knock on his door. "I'm not here. Leave a message after the beep."

"Funny Nathan. Very funny." Elle replied as she opened the door, walking over and handing him some mail. "It's from the college. Thought you might be interested."

"No, not really." Nathan mumbled, looking the envelope over before getting his thumb under the seal, working it open and pulling out the papers. "It's just something about where I'll be staying. Some place called 'Swanson Hall'."

He vaguely remembered that being near the Biomedical Research Lab that he and Varian had parked near, which was convenient he figured. However, he also noticed something else in the letter.

He'd be having a roommate.

Named Thomas Harrington.

Nathan unconsciously frowned, making Elle raise an eyebrow and read the letter over his shoulder before she smiled. "Oh good. Now I won't have to worry about you so much."

"What if he turns out to be some sort of serial rapist vampire that bites me and leaves me naked out in the middle of the street?"

"Oh please, Nathan."

"What? It's possible."

"No one would want to rape you."

"I think I liked it better when you didn't talk to me." he said, giving Elle a slight glare before looking back to the letter. It had this 'Thomas Harrington' person's e-mail, so Nathan figured he'd be sending him a message. And possibly doing a background check.

"You're ridiculous, Nathaniel."

"Better safe than raped and dead."
