"Well, it's not that important. I'm not an important person." Nathan shrugged.
Varian sighed. Nathan was important, but he'd probably just said that without speaking. "Still shouldn't be that easy."
"I guess. Speaking of birthdays, when is yours?"
Varian wondered how difficult he should make it for him before deciding to only be slightly annoying.
"Not for a while. I'm a winter baby."
"So. Exact date."
Varian snorted. "Why does it matter? I don't do anything for my birthday."
"Neither do I, but you felt the need to know it. So it's only fair that I know yours."
"I had to work a lot harder at learning yours." Varian pointed out. "But if you must know, I turn nineteen on the twenty-eighth of February."
"Thank you. And you could've just asked me, you know." Nathan replied, smiling slightly.
"I like making things difficult for myself. It's in my nature." Varian said with a small laugh. "But it was fun. You could have just told me, instead of trying to pretend like it wasn't going to happen."
"You never asked. I don't like bringing up my birthday." Nathan shrugged. "...February. Six months. So I have six months to find you a present."
Present? No. Varian did not do presents.
"Yeah, no. I don't do presents."
"Oh, well then." Nathan mumbled. "Never mind."
He didn't want to make Nathan feel bad. He just wasn't a present person.
"Nothing against you," Varian said quickly. "I just don't like them. Never did. Couldn't tell you why."
"Huh. Part of me wants to get you a present now, just because."
Varian huffed, Nathan didn't seem to understand what he was saying. "I don't want one."
"Too bad." he replied with a small smile.
"You can be irritating sometimes, you know that?" Varian asked.
"I know. But you still love me."
"Of course." Varian stated. It was one of the annoyingly endearing traits Nathan had that he couldn't bring himself to honestly complain about. There wouldn't be a point.
Nathan's smile widened, but he opted to stay silent.
It was pleasing to know that he could make Nathan smile so easily now. He had to work at it a lot harder in their beginning of their relationship. However, the familiar sound of Elle's car quickly made itself known to him.
Glancing over to the driveway, Varian decided that he was in far too good a mood to let Elle spoil it. "Your mom's gonna show up in a moment."
Venerra, from her position lying in the grass with Belle clawing at the shoelace tangled around her looked over.
"What? Why? I haven't done anything lately." Nathan said with a frown.
True to his prediction, Elle's car pulled in, and Varian was highly surprised to find he wasn't actually annoyed at her presence as she stepped out, walking over.
"Hello Varian." she said with a small smile.
The world was surely ending. Elle actually smiled at him. Granted, it was small, but it was a giant leap for mankind.
He smiled back. "Hi." he said. "Did you need something?"
"Not particularly, no. Got bored at home, so I figured I'd come and see where, exactly, my son spends all of his time, if you don't mind."
