Long before time had a name there was the realm of Oni and Dragon. The Dragon had the power to create. The Oni had the power to destroy. Their war was never-ending, but a child arrived born of both worlds...
They had caught me. They had won, and I couldn't stop them. All I could do was wait for them to make it official.
"Ready?" One of my capturers asked while he grabbed the rope.
"Always!" I answered, and prepared myself.
My three capturers jerked in the rope and I began to spin. I saw the world spin around me as I began to laugh. When the rope had spun off of me I took a few steps forward before falling to the ground. My friends laughed as I came to my feet again, still dizzy.
"We finally got you!" They said happily as they helped me regain my balance.
"You actually did," I answered with a smile on my face. I usually didn't get captured, I was too fast.
The game we played was pretty simple, all you need is a rope and somebody to play with. One of you needs to put the rope around your waist so that it is like a tail. Then the others should try to get a grip on the rope and spin it around you so that you get caught. When they have caught you they should drag out the rope so that you begin to spin around. If you succeed with this you have won and can change the person. The person in the middle should do all in their power to not let everybody else trap them.
We were just about to start a new round when my dad came walking towards us. He had a worried look on his face.
"Heiko! I need to talk with you," he said while he looked like he was in a hurry.
"Can it wait or..?" I asked not wanting to go just yet but his expression told me that we had to go right now. "I guess I will join you later," I said to my friends as I walked up beside my father.
"What is it?" I asked when he began to walk.
I had to hurry on my steps to keep up.
"We have to talk about who you are, Heiko," he said with a look toward the sky, almost like he was looking for something, "I have waited too long to tell you the truth. I was selfish."
"Dad, what are you talking about?" I asked, he was acting weirder than usual.
"Inside!" He said with a look over our shoulder, his eyes got wider like he saw something, but when I looked there was nothing there. "Inside!" He said again hurriedly.
I went inside and sat down on a chair as I waited for him. He came in just after a few seconds and made sure that the door was closed, twice.
"Why are you so worried?" I asked.
He sat down on another chair beside me before he answered, "There is something I have to tell you..." His voice was quiet, "I have to send you away." For the first time today, he sounded sure about what he said.
"Send me away!" I said in disbelief, I thought that he was joking, but then I saw his face, "Are you going to send me away?" I asked in realization when I understood that he was serious. "You are my father! Why would you send me away!?"
My dad just sat there for a moment before he answered, "I am not your father..." He said and my jaw dropped.
I was seventeen! He had taken care of me my entire life, he had been my father my entire life! I was about to say something when he continued.
"The oni has finally found you. They promised to keep away from our village if we gave you to them." He was entirely serious, there was no indication of him joking.
"The oni? What do they want with me?" I had more questions than ever before. And all of them were about me! Apparently, I didn't even know myself.
"My son," my so-called father said, "You are the Child of Oni and Dragon..." He looked me in the eyes and I could see that this was true, "The oni wants you because of their belief that you are going to help them defeat the dragons. They think that you are going to end their eternal war."
I just sat there, too stunned to speak.
