Jennie's POV

I'm pulling up to my mother's house right now. I've been in town for 1 hour and she already called me 5 times to make sure to be on time for the family New Year's Eve party. If I wasn't coming, then why the hell would I be to town, hm? Apparently, she didn't think about that. I reach over to the other seat and grab my purse. As I look ahead, I notice the car parked in front of me. Frowning, I stare at the red Mustang with a crack in the rear window. A crack that I know all too well, because I'm the one who did that a year ago. Then, I was aiming for the person's head, but she ducked. But what the hell is she doing here? Needing some answers, I hurry out the car as snow begins to fall on my head from the sky. The weather is getting pretty bad, so I agreed to stay the night here in my old bedroom during highschool. My heels click against the walkaway and by the time I get to the steps, the front door swings open.

"Jennie! My babygirl is here!"

I smile big as I come up the stairs, pulling her into a hug.

"Yes, I'm here mom. I told you I'd be here like 5 minutes ago when you called."

"Oh well, the weather is so bad, I didn't know if you'd make it. The snow is getting thick, come in and get out the cold."

"Hold up, woman." I stop her raising my eyebrow.

"What's the Mustang doing here?"

My mom looks over my shoulder as if she doesn't know what the hell i'm talking about.

"Huh?"

"Mom, why is she here? Why'd you invite her?"

"Jennie, please. I saw her in the store. She's here for business and told me that her flight was cancelled due to the weather. She was going to stay in a hotel."

"So, you invited Lisa. My ex...to the new year's party?"

"Yes and she'll be staying in the guest room."

"MOM!"

"Don't mom me, Jennie. She needs a family. You know her parents are always vacationing on some island and never have time for her. It's not my fault you dumped her."

"She cheated on me.." I frown, feeling hurt.

She's taking her side. She was the one comforting me when I come home from college crying my eyes out over her. She was the one who told me that Lisa is a dog. And now all of a sudden, Lisa is a golden child. I was thinking of skipping my own college graduation just to avoid her. But my mom's the one who convinced me to go, so Lisa wouldn't steal my shine. Now, she's here at the party. The moment I walk inside, after hanging my bag and coat up, I'm being greeted by aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

I spend 15 minutes hugging, smiling and laughing with my family. But in the back of my head, I'm wondering where Lisa is. She can't be far and she knows I'm here, so where's she hiding? I don't rush to find her, because I wanted to make time for family. I pour a heft cup of punch and plant my ass in the living room to catch up with eveyone. I'm realizing, I've had more than three cups of my mom "special" punch but honestly, I feel like I've taken 8 tequila shots. Does this woman just dump the alcohol in the bowl or does she actually intend on getting everyone fucked up?

As I'm laughing with my favorite cousin Ella, I hear the back door swing open. A few of my guy cousins come in with slighty red eyes and a grin of guilt on their faces as they are trying to play cool. I notice a figure following behind them. Those dark brown eyes find mine and it's like I'm 17 all over again.

Lisa and I dated during high school and we were considered the best couple around. We did everything together, even went to college together. I thought everything was perfect, until two weeks before graduation. She came into my dorm to tell me that she slept with another girl the night before. I was crushed and furious. I remember arguing with her while getting out of the door and down to the parking lot. She tried to play it cool, telling me to forgive her. But I wasn't having it. When she saw me pick up the large rock, she hurried into her car as I threw it. I knew I would never hit her no matter how much I wanted to, but I didn't think the rock would hit the back window of her car. The rock created a long crack down the middle of the back windshield and that was the last time I saw Lisa. I didn't even see her at graduation, because I looked at my shoes when they called her name. She broke my heart and I never wanted to see her again, but here she is..in my home giving that soft smile that won my heart in the first place. When everyone notices that Lisa and I are in the same room, they quiet down to see what's going to happen.
