The Algorithm To Your Heart

"Just like what I told you, it's just like algorithm." Vicky groaned at this but Des gave her a 'shut-up-I'm-still-not-finished' look kaya tumigil na siya "It has steps and I believe that step 1 is to hide the awkwardness."

"Well, how can I do that?" Vicky asked curiously, ang hirap kayang magpanggap na na walang nangyari "I mean, Tristan and I are like the epitome of awkwardness after what happened."

Oo nga, what happened ba? It was their first year in high school that they first met and after several months they were already each other's half. Hindi alam ng mga magulang ni Vicky at that time because she knows na they'd go hysterical. Kaso kamalas-malasan lang eh nasagot ng tatay ni Vicky ang tawag ni Tristan and then beng bye-bye love life.

Dumaan ang second year nang hindi nag-uusap ang dalawa dahil na rin sa pinagsabihan na sila ng ilang beses. Nahirapang mag-adjust si Vicky all because hindi talaga siya sanay na hindi si Tristan ang kasama niya kapag baba sa caf, o kaya kapag sasakay ng tricycle at hindi siya ihahatid ni Tristan sa sakayan ng tricycle. Oo childish talaga na mamiss si Tristan, but Vicky can't help but feel that. She loved the guy for crying out loud, and to be honest she still feels the same way.

"My god, a simple non-chalant hi or hello would not hurt Vicks, do it sometimes." Cool na sabi ng Ate Des niya bago tumayo para abutin ang phone niya "Oh, magti-three na pala? You wanna grab some merienda?"

"Eh paano yung ibang steps?" Worried niyang tanong sa ate niyang halatang ready nang lumayas kahit nakasweats lang ito.

"We'll talk about it while eating." Des assured worried Vicky "C'mon shake the worries, madali lang yung mga susunod na steps, I'm sure kaya mo na yun."

At kahit sobrang wala sa mood si Vicky kumain, she obliged sayang naman ang libre ng ate niya.

The moment Vicky saw Tristan the next day, she managed to give him a non-chalant hi/hello. Noong una, ayaw pang gawin ni Vicky pero since she badly wants Tristan back, ginawa na rin niya.

"Hi Tristan!" Phew, finally Vicky managed to say that without passing out.

"Oh hey Vicky, long time no talk huh?" Nagulat si Vicky sa response ni Tristan, no awkwardness or whatsoever?

"Yeah, we've both been busy with our lives." Vicky heard her Ate Des saying My god Vicks that is so lame! "I mean, busy ka sa Elevate and all. Ako naman sa Red Cross hah." Vicky tried to defend her first response and ended it with a nervous scoff. She is seriously horrible at following step 1!

"I get it, that second year was really hectic for me, not just because of Elevate but because of studies too." Vicky saw Tristan smiled a bit and it was enough for her heart to skip a beat, oh my, she didn't know he still has that effect to her.

"Oo nga, nako ang hirap talaga ng buhay ng mga Science students." Vicky said with a chuckle, bigla niyang naalala ang second step na sinabi sa kanya ni Des which is: Step 2, drop hints Vicks. Kunwari uhm, tell him na you'll be at the caf during break or what. Or tell him na lagi kang online sa Facebook kasi hininhintay mo ang mga posts ng kaklase mong may announcement ganun! You need to trigger him to do something. She needs to act fast kaya kung anong unang maisip niya ay sinabi niya agad "So, maganda pala tumambay sa caf kapag break time noh?" That line deserves a face palm, syempre sa caf ang tambayan kapag break, gagang to! She heard Des again (kailan ba 'to babalik sa pagpoprogram sa Notepad++?! She's getting annoying!).

"Hah, yes I thought I figured that one last two years ago?" Nakiride naman bigla si Tristan (or baka ayaw lang niyang ipahalata na ang lame nung sinabi ni Vicky, kung ganun, he's the sweetest) "I think I'll check the caf mamayang break to see kung maganda ngang tumambay dun." Tristan said with a teensy wink and made his way back to his classroom.
