If you became a desert I would become a cactus to survive your scalding heat

If you were a mountain I would break every bone in my body climbing your rough edges

I would run into a fire for you

As you would burn me alive without hesitation

AFTER

I have been reduced to burnt rubble

Parts of my soul scattered far away

Where I cannot find them

A SENSE OF RELIEF

I close my eyes in attempt

To shut out the sun

I smile softly as the ravens pick at my flesh

Happy that it's finally over

I can rest now

DREAM

I wake up

It wasn't real

A single tear of frustration

Darted down my cheek

The bitter taste of salt

Met my lips

I turn over and watch you sleep

Bitter that the freedom and relief

I thought I had

VANISHED.
