* * *
I wake up in a dark place. I don't know exactly where. The last thing remember was something hard hitting the back of my head. Someone must have knocked me out and put me here. I place my hand on the back of my head and feel a warm liquidly substances, blood. There also seems to be something cold. I pull it out of the back of my head. It is round and flat at the top and has a smooth stick part to it with a pointed end, a nail. Luckily it didn't get to far in my skull and it didn't do permanent damage. Then a horrible headache hits and I almost faint again but I need to get out of here.
I feel around for a light switch but I can't find one. I start to pound on the door as I scream for help. I continue this for what seems like an hour. I try to feel around for anything that might give away my location.
I feel some sort of cloth that is wet and it is attached to a stick. I also feel some washcloths. This must be where they hold all of the janitorial supplies. With what I remember this closet is close to the cafeteria. It is probably later at night and so the cafeteria must be closed so no one would be around here. I squint through the darkness at my wrist. It's bare, the person who put me in here took my watch.
I pat myself down, all of my supplies and gadgets are gone. They must not have wanted me to get me out. This person must have planned it.
I then hear a gunshot. It is really loud and it causes me to jump back. I knock over a bunch of mops and brooms and fall down. I land with my back lodged in the side of a broomstick and my feet are soaked with cold and soapy water. The mops bucket must of spilt. Whoever was cleaning today didn't drain the water. I stand up quickly so the water can't reach anywhere else.
I have to get out of this place, who knows whoever is shooting that gun might have put me in here so her could kill me, but why wouldn't they have killed me earlier? It just doesn't make sense.
I bang on the door, but I know that no one will answer. I have to get out of this on my own. Then I remember something. The new shoes I bought last week have a compartment on the soles. I bring up my right foot and feel around the sole. I find a slight difference in level and flip up the compartment.
I pull out a cool metal rod. I feel around it and discover a button. I push it and a blinding light hits my face. I turn it around and try to get the bright spot of light to go away. I flash it around the room and see all of the supplies. I look at the door then the doorknob. I look at the lock and see it is locked from the outside.
I pick up a broom and start ramming the door. I hear another gunshot. I continue trying harder, but the door won't budge. It is as if something is in the way of the door. I try one more time but there is no use. I slam my head on the wall and sigh. Then The pain of what a gunshot to the head would feel like flares up. I forgot about the condition of my head. I can't help anyone.
I hear the click of a lock and the door opens. Standing in front of me is Gavin and Jay. I clench my fist but I have to harness my anger I have no time to argue with them.
"What is going on?" I ask them as I clench my teeth.
"We don't know, we were looking for you." Gavin say as he puts something in his pocket.
"Thanks anyway." I mutter as I run down and out of the hall.I run through the halls searching for someone. I run towards the laboratory and when I reach it I see someone. I go in further and see a bunch of people crowded around something. I see scarlet in the crowd and go over to her. I see her turn around and she has tears running down her face.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't save them I was too late." She says continuously sobbing.
I look around her and push through the crowd. I reach the middle and look at the ground. Sitting there are the pale lifeless bodies of Ava and Miles. They both have been shot around their chest areas, and that must have been the two shots fired. They are both covered in their own blood. Their eyes are open showing that no one cared to close them. I reach over their dead bodies to close their eyelids. When I touch their skin it is cold. I kneel back down and rest my head on my knee. Tears block my view, these were some of my best friends and now they're gone. I look at them both and see their hands intertwined. Miles must have been shot first and Ava must have come and try to save him and then was shot.
"You see what these people are doing? They are picking us off one by one. If we don't do anything they are going to destroy this company. We need to focus on this, they have been killing our friends and allies even our parents. These people are ruthless and they seem to go at any extent to destroy us. We need to take them down no matter what, they are our enemy. Even if any of you are in this killing spree, I will stop at nothing to destroy them!" I scream as tears run down my face.
"Xenix calm down," the commander says walking toward me. "How can you be so calm when all of this is happening. You don't even give them pity," I say my voice lowering.
"I am the commander. I have to set a go, calm example," he says with his head held high.
"No need to worry from now on the base will be heavily guarded so they cannot do this again," the commander explains.
"Yeah, that's going to stop them," I mutter under my breath .
"So, now there is no need to worry we can just go on with our daily routine. As for Ava, Miles, Amelia and Katrina, we will hold a memorial tomorrow night to remember them," he says while putting his head down.
"So you are just going to give up on them, maybe they are still alive," I say angrily.
"They are gone, they are probably dead and going after them might cause us to lose more people. The best thing to do is to just go on with our lives," he says aggravated.
"Well, aren't you just a ray of sunshine," Scarlet blurts out.
"Well, I don't care what you are doing or what you think I am still going to look for them," I say as I walk over by Scarlet.
"I also need my payment right now so what's your decision," I say forcing.
"Fine. Here you go but you are still going to participate in missions and practice, same with you Scarlet," he says while giving me a check.
"Thanks," I mutter under my breath yanking the check from him.
I shove my way through the crowd, and I walk to my room. I make sure I shuts the door behind me. I walk over to my bed and sit on the edge. I look over at my countertop, my watch and everything else I was missing rests there I lay back and sigh, I think about what has happened for the past few days. I think of how it it could have been if this never happened. I hear a click at the door. I look over and see Scarlet come in. She comes over and sits next to me.
"I was wondering where you were when this all happened. The last time I saw you was hours ago," she asks curiously.
As she says that I look over at the clock and it reads eleven thirty.
" I was knocked out by someone and then put in a closet. I tried to get out, but Jayson and Gavin opened it for me, and that is when I came to the laboratory," I explain.
"Oh, do you have any idea of who knocked you out?" Scarlet asks quietly.
"Well not really, but I do have a lead. You see when I was in the closet I searched my suit and nothing was there but when I checked my new shoes my flashlight was still there," I say excitingly.
"Yeah, what's your point?" Scarlet asks looking around my room at my decoration.
"Well I think that is saying maybe the person who did it to me were from this agency. It's just a hunch, but they took everything from my suit except for the one thing that wasn't provided from this company. It would also explain of how these people found us and how they got our code to unlock the door. It just seems a little suspicious," I explain to Scarlet while I get up from my bed and start to move some items around in my room.
"Yeah that might be true, but who do you think would do it. There are also some cons like how the commander checked everyone's background intensively to make sure they weren't in any other organization," she tells me looking out my window at the starry night sky.
"Yeah that's true," I say scratching knuckles.
"So, what are we going to do next?" Scarlet asks as she goes to my bed and sits down.
"Well, I was planning on going cross town to the spy story. I need to get a laptop to help with the investigation to get these people,"I say walking over to Scarlet
"So do you want to come with me tomorrow?" I ask politely.
"Yeah sure but we need to get some sleep first," she says yawning.
